Insect Sci. 14(264): 2014; DOI: 10.1093/jisesa/ieu126 ABSTRACT. The study was conducted on fruit trees where bands of corrugated cardboard were attached around the trunks of the trees, which were used to catch the larvae of overwintering generation of the rufous-tipped swammerdamia moth, Swammerdamia pyrella (Villers) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae). Twenty-five species of parasitic Hymenoptera have been described from S. pyrella in Poland in- cluding the report in this article of seven species belonging to the family of Ichneumonidae (three species) and superfamily Chalcidoidea (four species). The parasitoids Gelis agilis F. (Ichneumonidae), Chrysocharis aquilegiae (Erdo¨s) (Eulophidae), Catolaccus ater (Ratzeburg) (Pteromalidae), and Eupelmus urozonus (Dalman) (Eupelmidae) had not been reported from the host before. Triclistus pallipes Holmgren (Ichneumonidae), Dibrachys cavus Walker (Pteromalidae) had the greatest effect on the natural regulation of S. pyr- ella population. Parasitization for the wintering cocoons of S. pyrella changed each year, but it was high throughout the study. The con- tribution of secondary parasitoids was much higher than primary parasitoids. Key Words: Ichneumonidae, Chalcidoidea, pest, natural regulation The rufous-tipped swammerdamia moth, Swammerdamia pyrella Site 1—a monastery garden in the centre of Lublin (UTM - FB 08; (Villers) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae), is a common species through- 51.247 N, 22.560 E).

  • Gall Midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) of South Tyrol (Italy) - Summary of Results and Zoogeographical Analysis
Gredleriana Vol. 10 / 2010 pp. 275 - 324 Gall midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) of South Tyrol (Italy) - summary of results and zoogeographical analysis Gallmücken (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) Südtirols – zusammenfassende Resultate und zoogeographische Analyse Marcela Skuhravá and Václav Skuhravý Abstract At present the gall midge fauna of South Tyrol includes 311 species in 68 genera. A total of 271 species are valid and 40 species, still undescribed, are identified to the generic level. Investigations were carried out at 124 localities at altitides from 250 m a.s.l. at Salurn to 2581 m a.s.l. at Schaubachhütte in the Ortler Range during the period 1999-2009. Zoogeographical analysis is based on 2150 records, of which 200 were obtained by earlier researchers and 1950 records of the present authors. Until 1996 only 24 species were known to occur in South Tyrol. We enriched the faunal list of South Tyrol by adding 287 species and the faunal list of Italy by 114 species. A list of gall midge species and a list of host plants attacked by gall midges are given. Diversity ranged from 3 to 36 species at a single locality. On average we determined 15 species to occur per locality in South Tyrol. Species number declines with increasing elevation. Density is high at 189 species per 1000 km2. South Tyrol is one of the best explored areas of the world for galls of Cecidomyiidae. Frequency of occurrence: 49 % species occur very rarely, 21 % rarely, 17 % moderately frequently, 9 % frequently, 4 % very frequently. Iteomyia capreae is the most frequently recorded species in South Tyrol.

A CTA ENTOMOLOGICA MUSEI NATIONALlS PRA G AE 1 9 6 1, X X X I V, 6 0 0 REDESCRIPTION OF SPHENOLEPIS PYGMAEA NEES (HYM., EULOPHIDAE, TETRASTICHINAE) -A SPECIES NOT REFOUND SINCE 1812 ZDENEK BOUCEK (D epartment of Entomology, National Museum, Prague) The genus Sphenolepis was erected in 1834 by Nees (p. 256) for the single species S. pygmaea Nees, and has been misinterpreted many times since. Most of the later authors regarded it as an Encyrtid, and considered the genus a synonym of Ectroma Westw. following thus Ashmead, 1904 (p. 389), or of Choreia Westw., when taking account of the erroneous combination of Encyrtus ineptus Dalm. with Sphenolepis, suspected as probably right already by Nees, 1834 (pp. 256, 258). Sphe nolepis has, however, nothing to do with the family Encyrtidae, but is an Eulophid of the subfamily Tetrastichinae, and as will be shown in this article, is a senior subjective synonym of Tetrastichus Haliday, 1843 (nee Walker, 1842). Tetrastichus is differently interpreted by several recent authors. Some of them follow Kurdjumov, 1913, who considered Tetrastichus Hal., Geniocerus Ratz. and Aprostocetus Westw. as distinct valid genera. On the other hand, most of those authors who base their opinions on fresh studies of the whole complex, generally agree in considering the group one large g~nus, named in this case Tetrastichus Walker, 1842, leaving at most only Aprostocetus as independent. A more or less plain ex pression of this conception can be found in the papers of Burks, 1943, Peck, 1951, and Graham (in: Lindroth and Graham), 1960. I myself supported the latter view in our Czech Keys to the genera of the Chalcid flies in 1957 and am of the same opinion today.
