The Comissão dos Profissionais de Saúde Unidos (CPSU) dropped out on Friday. Jorge Arroz, head of the doctors association (Associação Médica de Moçambique, AMM), announced late Saturday afternoon that the strike was over. Government has not commented. The statement is on the AMM website: https://www.facebook.com/AssociacaoMedicaDeMocambique and reported on http://www.verdade.co.mz/ Doctors said that talks with government resumed on Thursday and Friday and that government had tabled a new offer, which was still unsatisfactory but was being considered. (AIM 15 June) Talks had been stalled because government had said it would talk to AMM but not if CPSU, which it called a "ghost organisation", was present. AMM had refused to talk to government without CPSU. AMM said the CPSU was present at least on Thursday. The strike had been strongest in Maputo and Matola, but Nampula governor Cidália Chaúque said that 20 of 48 doctors in Nampula central hospital were on strike.

    India-Mozambique Relations India and Mozambique enjoy close, friendly relations built upon traditional links dating back to pre-colonial period. Traders and merchants from the Indian sub-continent came to Mozambique centuries back, even before Vasco da Gama set his sails for Africa and India. These traditional links have grown from strength to strength over the years as a result of which India and Mozambique today find many common grounds to cooperate with each other for their mutual benefit. India consistently lent its support to Mozambique in the latter’s freedom struggle. Mozambique achieved its independence in 1975 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in the same year. India was, in fact, among the first countries to open its Embassy in Mozambique immediately after independence. The Indian Ambassador was among those who witnessed the historic event of the Portuguese flag coming down and the new Mozambican flag going up in 1975. Mozambique opened its Mission in New Delhi in 2001. Exchange of Visits: The leadership of the two countries have maintained a cordial and friendly relationship. There have been regular high level exchanges and interactions in a number of fields. The first Mozambican President Samora Machel paid a state visit to India in 1982, which was reciprocated by Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi in April 1982. President Joaquim Alberto Chissano visited India twice – in May 1988 and May 2003. Recently, President Armando Guebuza paid a state visit to India in September-October 2010. The Prime

Involved were people from across the globe and across the socioeconomic and political spectrums – Chinese Communists and Portuguese right-wing dictators, American black nationalists in the urban North and South African white supremacists, cold warriors and human rights activists. The Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), was the only national liberation movement in the 1960s to receive aid from the United States, the Soviet Union, and the People‘s Republic of China. I contend that, because both FRELIMO and Portugal relied on support from the international community to wage war for over a decade (1964-1975), the anti-colonial wars in lusophone Africa were not only armed struggles, but also cultural and rhetorical battles. FRELIMO‘s program of socialist revolution which heralded human rights and social justice through education, non- racialism and gender equality resonated with the international shift to the left of the 1960s. Counterpoised were the Portuguese right-wing corporative dictatorship which espoused a ―Lusotropical‖ civilizing mission for its African overseas provinces, and the white supremacist regimes of Southern Rhodesia and South Africa that militarily and economically dominated Southern Africa.
