WELCOME 2020 is a year of change. In every corner of the world, and in every area of our own lives, things are very different than they were one year ago. And with that change, there has been struggle. A struggle to find new ways of doing what must be done, a struggle to let go of what can no longer be, and for some, a struggle to survive. Between the moments of struggle, remarkable adaptation has taken root – growing despite challenge. Together, we have created, we have collaborated, and we have adapted. Still in progress, and evolving, but from challenge has risen a new recognition of the ways in which we are connected. So here we are – somewhat disconnected physically, but adapting together to create solutions for the evolving challenge of healthcare disparities in our community. Thank you for showing up to create a strong, stable safety net of accessible, affordable healthcare for Oregon’s vineyard workers and their families. Thank you for saying yes to acknowledging your actions, your contributions can help shape the storyline of this challenging year, and strengthen our response for the future. ¡Salud! They experimented with allowing native Tasting yeast (those present in the vineyard) to run the fermentation on their own fruit as well as fruit from other vineyards in the study, and also ran the same with April 23, 2016 Tour: Patricia Green inoculations of commercial cultured yeasts as controls. They results were Cellars quite a surprise to everyone involved. In most cases, in the non-inoculated May 18, 2016 batches the native yeast was only barely present in the must at the end of Faults & Flaws primary, and even if it had started out as the dominant strain its population June 15, 2016 dropped off steeply by mid-fermentation, presumably contributing only Speaker: Tom Feller, marginally to the resulting wine’s character. In many cases the commercial winemaker from Artisanal yeast inoculations became the dominant and final strains, but curiously not Wine Cellars. always. The real shocker was that a large number of the musts showed the June 26, 2016 dominant yeast present to be a previously used (but discontinued) Portland Winemakers commercial yeast.
