Highlights
- Terror attack in Nairobi: Al-Shabaab, the Somali Islamist group linked to al-Qaeda, attack a luxury hotel complex in Westland, Nairobi within a short distance of CGPP office. Terrorist attack claimed 21 people and more than 700 people safely evacuated. None of CGPP and partner staff and their families were affected and no disruption to the project activities in the city as well as the Counties
Build effective partnerships between agencies on Polio and GHSA activities
- Support supervision Wajir and Mandera: The Secretariat team conducted a joint CGPP/MOH support supervision to Wajir and Mandera Counties. The team visited all the project supported health facility and community sites.

Eight-seven (87) facilities were visited by the joint surveillance team
Challenges reported during the week
- The insurgent ambushed Security convoys at a village near Kismayo - Terror attack in Nairobi Hotel (Dusit D2 hotel) with over 20 fatalities reported by Security agencies. - In-security incident (Cattle rustling) reported in Kibish sub-county (Turkana County) along Kenya, South Sudan border. - Coldchain breakdown, Garissa (Hamey and Banane Kokar Disp ) and Lower Juba( Dhobley MCH Hospital and WRRS Clinic)
Planned activities ( 21st – 27th Jan 2019) 1. CGPP-HoA Secretariat - Benchmarking trip to Nigeria by the CGPP-HoA Secretariat director - Participate in WHO-HOA strategic planning meeting in Mombasa on the HOA OBRA & TAG recommendation - Completion of FY19 Q1 reports - Support the planning of Turkana county joint cross-border meeting.
2. CGPP-HoA Partners Project field teams - Joint support supervision - Support routine Immunization Social mobilisation and outreach sessions - Conduct/Support DMOH training in Gedo - Attend Departmental Health meetings. - Mapping for traditional healers in Kamukunji. - Refresher training for key health staffs and Community Mobilizers (Lower Juba) - Support monthly cross-border health committee meeting. - Mapping for health facilities that operate at night in Kamukunji) - Conduct community dialogue sessions and key community stakeholders meeting - Support AFP case search and detection - Conduct regional microplanning training for health care workers
