All 6th grade students are asked to bring a copy of their updated immunization record to Richard- son as soon as possible. Parent involvement is needed in your child’s middle school years

Here are some suggestions from the Parent Institute about the best things parents can do for their student:

1. Communicating expectations. Simply telling your child that you expect him/her to work hard and succeed has a big impact on his/her learning.

2. Reinforcing what he/she is learning at school. Encouraging your child to take what he/she is learning in school (such as math) and apply it to their everyday life (a budget at the mall) can help them see why education matters.

3. Discussing their future. Does your child want to be a veterinarian? A writer? Explore the requirements for different professions. Whatever they dream of doing, a solid education is their ticket to achieving their goal.

4. Finding learning strategies that work for them—watching, listening, doing, reasoning, interacting with others. What is best for your child’s individual need?
