With lush, ethereal harmonies transporting the listener through myriad ancient and forgotten languages, the choir weaves its story-telling magic through original settings of mediaeval texts, as well as reinventing traditional folk songs and carols, often accompanied by a dazzling array of exotic and period instruments. 2019 sees the release of the group’s 9th studio album, the fantastical “A Pocket Full of Posies”, celebrating the dark, surreal and mystical in all the well-known nursery rhymes, handed down through the mothers of the British Isles. Throughout December Knitivity The ever popular Knitivity will be welcomed back to the Cathedral this December and will be on display for visitors to enjoy from Saturday 7 December and will remain in pride of place in the Cathedral throughout Advent.

Highlighting the important Nativity story in a colourful and accessible way, the entirely knitted life size Knitivity shares messages of hope and unity through its unique creation by community groups across the county. The collaborative display promotes crafting for wellbeing and provides visitors to the Cathedral with a very special display during the festive season.

Hymnus Paradisi was first performed at the Gloucester Three Choirs Festival of 1950. The work is set in six movements that combine the texts of psalms, the Latin mass and other sacred texts. This will be a friendly, informal session led by one of the UK’s most renowned choral conductors who studied under Howell’s at the Royal College of Music. If you’re a keen singer (you don’t have to be a member of GCS) come along, warm up those vocal chords and join in.

Arriving by Public Transport The Cathedral is located in Gloucester Town Centre and is located within easy reach of the main railway and bus station. It is a 10-15 minute steady walk. Look out for Finger sign posts that will point you in the right direction.
