    When HVCCA opened in 2004, it had a broad vision to support contemporary artists and to offer insight into challenging new works and new media. That same year we also showcased emerg- ing artists from the performance, installation and technology arenas through our first Peekskill Project, placing art along public roads, in Parks and in abandoned buildings throughout the city of Peekskill. We hosted our first Art-in-Residency to Sandra Tomboloni of Florence, celebrating her creativity in a closing solo exhibition. In 2007, 11 years ago, Mara Mills came to me with the suggestion to invite poets and artists of the spoken word to offer original works that would intersect with the art works presented in the exhibitions, to model varied ways for people to relate to contemporary art, to offer the freedom of personal expression through viewing and absorbing the arts in a new and unique way. Since then 11 iterations of Writing the Walls have taken place at HVCCA, with excited participants passing from art work to art work, following the paths of the writers as they read and perform their works in front of their inspiring piece. Our appreciation goes to Mara Mills, our talented Deputy Director and mentor in the Theatre Arts, who, each year, has breathed life into this project and who deftly, guides the poets and playwrights in their readings and performances, and to JoAnn Brody who worked tirelessly to mount the works near their respective art and who made this book a reality.     Sociology Study, December 2015, Vol. 5, No. 12, 920‐930 D doi: 10.17265/2159‐5526/2015.12.003 DAVID PUBLISHING Simple but Dominant: How to Re­shine Depeche Mode on Album Covers After 80’s Cinla Sekera Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the album covers of English band Depeche Mode after 80’s according to the principles of graphic design. Established in 1980, the musical style of the band was turned from synth‐pop to new wave, from new wave to electronic, dance, and alternative‐rock in decades, but their message stayed as it was: A non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. As a graphic design product, album covers are pre‐print design solutions of two dimensional surfaces. Graphic design, as a design field, has its own elements and principles. Visual elements and typography are the two components which should unite with the help of the six main principles which are: unity/harmony; balance; hierarchy; scale/proportion; dominance/emphasis; and similarity and contrast. All album covers of Depeche Mode after 80’s were designed in a simple but dominant way in order to form a unique style. On every album cover, there are huge color, size, tone, and location contrasts which concluded in simple domination; domination of a non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. McClure Twentieth-century literature and theory have offered no shortage of challenges to the unity of personal identity. What these undertakings leave largely unquestioned, however, is the prevailing understanding that personal identity is sealed within the confines of the physical body—the final uncontested frontier of Cartesian identity. Emerging from a matrix of recent American literature—by Don DeLillo, Charles Johnson, Tony Kushner, Toni Morrison, among others—is a counter-argument to the notion that the materially bounded self is separate from other such selves in space. For the “individual” to take shape as such, it must locate itself within a specific social identity, disavowing its connection with those who identify themselves differently: a process, these texts suggest, that can unleash racial and ideological violence. My dissertation explores six late twentieth-century American novels and plays (1982 to 1998) that both dramatize this violent process and propose an alternative through images of humans dislocated from their bodies and fusing metaphysically with other open selves across space.
