Cody Midlam Senior In 2006-07 Duquesne set a school record for dual match victories in a season with a 13-11 record. The Dukes had four wrestlers register at least 20 wins on the season, led by Brad Cipriani’s 34-10 record. Cipriani’s 34 wins were second most all-time at Duquesne. Jared Ricotta made his third straight NCAA Championship appearance while Cody Midlam made his first, making it 15 straight years Duquesne has sent someone to nationals. The Red and Blue went 4-0 at the East Regional Duals.

John Hartupee

ohn Hartupee returns for his 11th season as Duquesne’s head wrestling coach in 2007-08. Hartupee, who was an assistant at Duquesne for Jthree seasons prior to taking over the head coaching duties, is just the second wrestling coach since the sport’s resurrection in 1991. In his 10 seasons as head coach, Hartupee has accumulated a 96-83-3 career record, including a school record 13 wins in 2006-07. The 2005 East Region Coach of the Year has sent at least one wrestler to the NCAA Championships every year and has directed the Dukes to two NCAA East Regional Championships (2000 and 2005). In recent years, Hartuppe led the Red and Blue to four straight runner- up showings at the NCAA East Regional Championship before capturing the crown in 2004-05, sending four DU wrestlers to National’s. In 2001-2002, Duquesne set a then school record for wins in a season Head with 12 while winning the National Catholic Championships and the East Coach Regional Duals meet and in 2002-03, won its second straight National Catholic Championship, sending three wrestlers to NCAA’s. Eleventh Hartupee’s coaching career began in 1981 as an assistant at Clemson University. In 1983 he worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Season Michigan before taking an assistant position at the University of Pittsburgh in 1985. Hartupee remained at Pitt until accepting an assistant job at his alma mater of Central Michigan University in 1988. He then began teaching and coaching at the high school level in Michigan before joining the Duquesne staff in 1994. Prior to coaching, Hartupee had a celebrated wrestling career. He was a three-time Michigan high school champion as well as a two-time high school All-American. In addition, he went on to be a Junior Olympics National Champion and a Junior World National Champion. In college, as a 118-pounder, Hartupee was a two-time Mid-American Conference champion, a NCAA runner-up and an All-American. After college, he went on to receive accolades as a two-time AAU Senior National Champion, a Canadian Senior National Champion, a first alternate for the 1980 United States Olympic Team and was a member of the US National Team. Most recently, he was a 1993 Masters World Champion.

Upper weights (184, 197, HWT) Despite losing two starters in the upper weight classes, the Dukes are deep here with at least two wrestlers filling each spot. D’Orsie and Sellers manned the heavyweight position last year, but with the addition of Richardson at heavyweight, Sellers may drop to the vacated 197 pound class. Also competing for mat time at 197 will be freshmen Mitchell and Farah. Graduation also left a gap at 184 pounds, but Black, who went 4-6 there last season, is the front-runner with newcomer Hebert looking to push him. Sula may also see some time at 184.

Middle weights (157, 165, 174) Four wrestlers will handle the bulk of the workload here in Midlam, Gregg, Pauley and Sula. Midlam is the incumbent at 157 and will likely continue his career at that weight class. With an open spot at 165, Pauley and Gregg should split time there while Sula will continue to wrestle at 174 where he registered 10 victories last year. Reinhart and Black could also compete here.

Light weights (125, 133, 141, 149) The light weight classes will see five Dukes competing for four starting spots, including the
