Pretok informacij o novih glasbenikih, zasedbah, koncertih in plošËah z vsega sveta je popoln in bliskovit . Hugo Šekoranja, urednik za jazz, Radio Slovenija, vodja izbirne komisije za kompilacijo Jazz Slovenia 2011 5 CD Greetings e are thrilled to present the first CD compilation in the history of Slovenian jazz . We have strived to Wcapture on it just a fragment of the creativity of the most important working jazz musicians and composers who have been active in Slovenia in recent years (from 2007 to 2010) . Jazz entered Slovenia after World War I when it was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, first through film and radio, and on the vinyl records brought by local jazz enthusiasts from America . The emergence and work of the first local Slovenian jazz groups has never been properly researched . No doubt, compositions from that time through World War II were a combination of dance music, evergreens, and archaic jazz . In 1945, immediately after the end of the war, Slovenia developed its first serious, professional jazz orchestra, which played under the auspices of Radio Ljubljana . The times were not friendly to this development as the new communist authorities rejected this kind of music as being from the “imperialist west” . Nevertheless, great popular enthusiasm overcame official resistance . Slovenian jazz musicians sometimes took jazz standards, gave them a Slovenian title, and thus got them past the government censors . During the post-war years and the time of the “iron curtain”, Yugoslavia, and Slovenia along with it, functioned as a sort of cordon sanitaire between East and West . The Yugoslav communist government, considerably more liberal than those of the Soviet Union and its Eastern European satellites, permitted the freer flow of people and goods . Because of this, 1960 saw the first Yugoslav jazz festival take place in Bled . Later, this festival moved to the capital Ljubljana, where it has operated ever since and enjoys the reputation of one of the longest-running jazz festivals in the world . Its unique and invaluable contribution was that, during the Cold War and the division of the world into two blocs, it brought together jazz musicians from the communist East and the capitalist West . It remains the most important jazz event in the country and continues to inspire new generations of young jazz fans . Of course, the situation today in the independent nation of Slovenia is quite far from the naïve excitement of post-war times . The flow of information about new musicians, compositions, concerts, and records from all over the world is rapid and comprehensive . Slovenian musicians are educated in the best international schools and 6 work all over the world . The best international jazz stars have performed for Slovenian fans and Slovenian jazz musicians are no longer a rarity on foreign stages . This CD compilation represents the most important and interesting jazz musicians, composers, and performers who have been important in the Slovenian jazz scene during the recent three-year period . It is often said that Slovenia is a country of singers and yet there are only three vocal compositions in this selection . Most are instrumental, although there is a wide range among them in terms of genre, mood, and ideas . This only confirms the fact that today discussions about what jazz is and isn’t are somehow obsolete . Labels such as experimental, modern, straight ahead, ethno, swing, and so on, no longer serve their purpose . At a time when our planet is smaller than ever, the styles of music on it mingle, merge, and influence each other, whether people like it or not . Only time will tell what will remain and what will fade into oblivion . As for us, we are already looking forward to a compilation of Slovenian jazz that will cover the next few years . Hugo Šekoranja, jazz editor for Radio Slovenija, leader of selection commission for the compilation Jazz Slovenia 2011 7 Podalpski jazz se podaja v svet a zaËetnika jazza na Slovenskem štejemo Miljutina Negodeta, ki je leta 1922 ustanovil zasedbo Original ZJazz Negode, kmalu zatem pa je v Ljubljano prinesel prvi saksofon . Predvojne jazzovske zasedbe v bistvu niso igrale jazza, kakršnega poznamo danes, a so zelo pomembne, saj so v povojnem obdobju glasbeniki iz teh zasedb ustvarili slovensko jazz sceno .

"We are building, right now, incredible military equipment at a level that nobody has ever seen before. We have no choice. We have to do it with the adversaries we have out there. We have, I call it the super-duper missile, and I heard the other night - 17 times faster than what they have right now," Trump said in the Oval Office. Trump's comments came during a White House event where he signed the 2020 Armed Forces Day Proclamation. During the ceremony, the administration also unveiled the flag of the country's newest military wing, the Space Force. It's the first new military flag to be unveiled in 72 years. "Space is going to be the future, both in terms of defense and offense and so many other things," Trump said. "And already, from what I'm hearing and based on reports, we're now the leader in space." A Pentagon spokesman was asked about the "super-duper missile" during a subsequent press call and referred reporters back to the White House.

  • Wild Dances and Dying Wolves: Simulation, Essentialization, and National Identity at the Eurovision Song Contest
Wild dances and dying wolves: simulation, essentialization, and national identity at the Eurovision Song Contest ABSTRACT This paper examines Eurovision as a site for the public representation of the nation and explores the tendency towards simulation in such representations. The contest’s transnational audience and implication in commercial practices create pressures towards representing the nation through simplified, well-known images. A critique of globalization from south-east Europe argues that cultural production from marginalized countries which emphasizes local distinctiveness is a sign of structural inequality. This critique is tested against representational strategies from Ukraine, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia. Eurovision is then related to tourism through an analysis of the representation of the Mediterranean in Eurovision performances, which reflect symbolic hierarchies constructed by travel writing since the Enlightenment. Finally, the paper considers the overarching representational power exerted by host states. Key words: Eurovision Song Contest, popular music, folklore, national identity, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Ukraine Word count: 9, 235 words including notes and references This paper seeks to explore the tendency towards simulation in contemporary public representations of the nation through a historical account of the representation of national tradition in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004. Eurovision offers two forms of opportunity for nations to be represented: the production of a live performance (and often a promotional video) by each competitor, and the promotion of the host city and country on the part of the state broadcaster organizing the event. This paper contends that the nature of the Eurovision audience (with viewers in more than 40 countries inside and outside Europe) and the commercial practices in which Eurovision is implicated create pressures towards public representations which play on simplified, well-known images of a country or region.

  • MUSIK in SLOWENIEN Eine Kurze Darstellung Der Slowenischen Musikszene Und Markt
