  • Vision-1 Terrain Database 1401 3015.( )-34-3631 Original 5 May 2015, Revision C 18 September 2015 Page 1 of 14 SERVICE BULLETIN
Service Bulletin Number 3015.( )-34-3631 Announcement of the Availability of Vision-1® Terrain Database 1401 NOTE: Revision C to this Service Bulletin provides Field Loading information and updated kit pricing. A. Effectivity This Service Bulletin is applicable to Vision-1 P/N 3015-XX-XX configured with SCN 10.0 and later. B. Compliance Installation of Terrain Database 1401 is optional. Consideration should also be given to the length of time since the database was last updated. Each Terrain Database incorporates all changes and updates from the previous databases. NOTICE This Terrain Database can be field loaded into Vision-1. Contact Universal Avionics to obtain database loading kit part number P12104 which includes the Field Loading Procedures, Zip disks and USB flash drives to load Terrain Database 1401. Loading terrain databases into Vision-1 requires a Solid State Data Transfer Unit (SSDTU) (P/N 1408-00-X or 1409-00-2) or DTU-100 (P/N 1406-01-X or 1407-01-1) with Mod 1 marked on the nameplate. For operators using a DTU-100 without Mod 1, the Vision-1 units should be sent to Universal Avionics for updating. The terrain database contains five disks with 450 Mb of data and takes over an hour to load. Because of this, DTU-100 units without Mod 1 may fail due to overheating causing the Vision-1 Terrain Database to become corrupted and the Vision-1 system unserviceable. If the Vision-1 unit is returned to Universal Avionics for update of the terrain database or because of failure during field loading, the repair center will update the database and perform any modifications and updates to the unit.

  • Arctic Circle Race -- Sisimiut, Greenland -- April 8 - 10, 2005 by Lindsay Gauld
Arctic Circle Race -- Sisimiut, Greenland -- April 8 - 10, 2005 by Lindsay Gauld Sometimes in a long tough event, you reach a point where you feel that you just can’t go on. You can’t continue to put your body through the pain that your efforts are causing. I lost count of how many times I reached that point in the 3-day Arctic Circle cross country ski race in Sisimiut Greenland. It’s called the hardest cross country ski race in the world, and it lives up to it’s billing. In November of last year I did La Ruta de los Conquistadores in Costa Rica, which is known as the hardest mountain bike race on the planet. There’s a pattern that seems to be forming here. My wife Lynne has picked up on it, and now tells me that our yard work is the hardest on earth. I haven’t bit on that yet. However, these events are extremely challenging and at the same time very rewarding, so I keep looking for these kinds of challenges. I first heard about the 9-year-old event several years ago, and I’ve had it on my dance card since then. I had to pause and think about it since this is a classic event, and I had only done skate races for at least 10 years. As I’ve gotten older (and slower) I find that I really enjoy the multi-day events, which test your mind and will as much as your speed, and this was the appeal of the ACR.

  • Summary of Drainage Analysis in Sisimiut, Greenland
1 Annele Matintupa, Seppo Tuisku SUMMARY OF DRAINAGE ANALYSIS IN SISIMIUT, GREENLAND Demonstration Project Report 2 ABSTRACT Drainage is one of the most important factors to be kept in mind in road design and maintenance projects. It is accepted generally that road structures work well and last longer in dry conditions. Researches have shown that that poor drainage is often the main cause of road damages and problems with long term road serviceability. This knowledge however has not always been applied in practice with the result that the general drainage condition of the road networks is not good. Previous ROADEX projects have reported that poor drainage is the one of the biggest problems for Northern European rural roads, and parts of the main road network. Drainage analysis was developed to locate those critical sections, needing improvement and after that regular attention and maintenance. Usually a drainage analysis is done visually from a moving car and later from digital videos with input from road historical performance data (roughness and rutting). In Greenland case roughness and rutting data was not available which caused limitations for the statistical analysis. This report “Summary of Drainage Analysis in Sisimiut, Greenland” describes the results of the ROADEX drainage demonstration project in the Sisimiut area of Greenland. The Sisimiut demonstration project was the first project to use the ROADEX drainage analysis solely in an urban area. In addition to visual evaluations a laser scanner was also used. Overall the surveyed drainage sections proved to be in moderate condition. Mainly the problems were related to a side sloping street profile and/or clogged access road culverts.
