We Received 22 September 2008 observed macrofungi soon after fire at two widely separated sites, one in the Pacific Northwest United Received in revised form 6 November 2008 States and the other in southeastern mainland Australia. The range of species on-site was compared Accepted 11 November 2008 against macrofungi reported after the volcanic eruption at Mount St. Helens, also in the Pacific Northwest. Each of the three sites shared species, particularly representatives of the genus Anthracobia. Summary: Species diversity for Peziza in Israel is presented. The 25 Peziza species re- Février 2011 corded from Israel include P. alaskana, P. ammophila, P. badia, P. badiofusca, P. brun- neoatra, P. cerea, P. cervina, P. echinospora, P. fimeti, P. fuliginea, P. howsei, P. lobulata, P. michelii, P. micropus, P. moseri, P. nivalis, P. proteana f. sparassoides, P. repanda, P. saniosa, P. sepiatra, P. succosa, P. succosella, P. tenacella, P. varia and P. vesiculosa. Two species — P. alaskana and P. lobulata — are reported for the first time in Israel. Israeli locations and collection dates, habitat data, general distribution, and taxonomic remarks are provided for all species. Detailed macro- and micromor- phological descriptions and illustrations are given for the two species newly recorded from Israel. The apothecia range in size from a few millimeters to more than 10 centimeters in diameter, The genus Peziza Dill. ex Fr. is the largest genus within Pezi- and are often fleshy, soft and brittle. Most taxa are separa- zales, with approximately 100 currently accepted species ted from each other mainly on the basis of their microstruc- tural and biochemical characters such as spore shape, color, (HOHMEYER, 1986; KORF, 1972). -

Van Vooren2, M. Carbone3, K. Hansen1 Key words Abstract The easily recognised genus Otidea is subjected to numerous problems in species identification. A number of old names have undergone various interpretations, materials from different continents have not been compared and Flavoscypha misidentifications occur commonly. In this context, Otidea is monographed, based on our multiple gene phylogenies ITS assessing species boundaries and comparative morphological characters (see Hansen & Olariaga 2015). All names ITS1 minisatellites combined in or synonymised with Otidea are dealt with. Thirty-three species are treated, with full descriptions and LSU colour illustrations provided for 25 of these. Five new species are described, viz. O. borealis, O. brunneo parva, O. ore- Otideopsis gonensis, O. pseudoleporina and O. subformicarum. Otidea cantharella var. minor and O. onotica var. brevispora resinous exudates are elevated to species rank. Otideopsis kaushalii is combined in the genus Otidea. A key to the species of Otidea is given. An LSU dataset containing 167 sequences (with 44 newly generated in this study) is analysed to place collections and determine whether the named Otidea sequences in GenBank were identified correctly. Fourty-nine new ITS sequences were generated in this study. The ITS region is too variable to align across Otidea, but had low intraspecific variation and it aided in species identifications. Thirty type collections were studied, and ITS and LSU sequences are provided for 12 of these. A neotype is designated for O. -

Denison** (Received for publication June 8, 1963) The fruiting bodies of some of the operculate cup-fungi (Class Ascomy cetes, Order Pezizales) are among the largest and most brilliantly colored pro duced by any group of fungi. They commonly attract the admiration and curiosity of amateur and professional naturalist alike. The orange goblets of Cook'eina su/cipes, for exampIe, are a familiar sight to residents of moist, Iowland, tropical countries. Other species, smaller in size or of duller coIoration, are known only to those with the patience to seek them out. The thirty-two species of oper culate cup-fungi presentIy known to occur in Costa Rica probably represent only a smaIl fraction of the total number that grow tbere. It is hoped that the pubIication of this preliminary account will stimuIate further collection and study of these interesting and attractive fungi. This paper is based upon specimens collected By Dr. C. W. Dodge and his companions during the period 1929-1936, as well as upon specimens collected by the author in June 1962. DupIicates of most of the specimens have been deposited in the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica. Another set of Dodge's col lections it at the New York Botanical Garden and a complete set of the author's colIections is availabIe at Cornell University. [email protected] Resumen. Se presenta la revisión de la familia Pezizaceae en México. El primer registro de una Peziza data de 1875, época en que Cooke citó a Peziza cordovensis. A la fecha esta familia está representada en México por 7 géneros que contienen 29 especies, de los cuales el género Peziza es el más diverso con 18 especies, siguiéndole en orden numérico Pachyphloeus con 4. De las 29 especies citadas 5 se consideran dudosas. -
