Tinchy Stryder announced as second YUSU Summer Ball headliner

Rapper Tinchy Stryder has been announced as the second headliner for YUSU’s Summer Ball

Tinchy Stryder has been announced as the second headline act for the 2013 Summer Ball.

Described as “one of the more promising grime artists to arise from the Bow area of East London”, Stryder is best known for chart hits such as “Number 1” and “Never Leave You”.

Stryder first rose to prominence 2002 as part of the group Roll Deep, which counts rappers Dizzee Rascal and Wiley among its founding members.

The rapper’s pseudonym derives from a combination of the Japanese arcade game ‘Strider’ and the nickname Tinchy, a reference to his height of 5 foot 1 inch.

The artist, who is of Ghanaian-British origins, has since released four solo studio albums. His most recent album, ‘Full Tank,’ featured collaborations with Calvin Harris, Pixie Lott and Dappy from N-Dubz. The single ‘Spaceship’ featuring Dappy charted at number 5, was Stryder’s first top five chart success since 2009.

Stryder’s most recent single, ‘Help Me’, was released in September 2012.

Alongside his music career, Stryder has had many business ventures including his clothing line ‘Star in the Hood’. The rapper also co-owns with Jay-Z the independent record label ‘Takeover Roc Nation’.

The artist will perform alongside The Futureheads who were announced as the first headline act last Wednesday. Tickets for the Ball are available to purchase online from the YUSU website: www.yusu.org/shop.

Ergh. Undoubtedly I’m sure York’s hipster cult will love it. After all, they destroyed Dizzee Rascal, so I’m sure they are hunting for some fresh meat.

another misguided rapper that you couldn’t catch spitting a thought-provoking rhyme. guess this is what the supposed young “intelligentsia” are in the market for.
