● Recruited three new board members (Kristy Cunningham, Christine Fraser, Danielle Wang) who bring professional expertise, belief in Citizen Schools mission and interest in advancing work of organization FY20 ● Oversaw orientation for new board members Accomplishments ● Based on research and discussion, recommended 20-25 as optimal size for Citizen Schools National Board ● Created first board self-evaluation survey and analyzed results to implement improvement suggestions in FY21

Profile: Dr. Dione Christy, a long-time education leader and fan of Citizen Schools work since her time working with Carol Johnson’s administration at BPS. Dr. Dione Christy She reached out to Em since she is moving back to after years in Senior Vice President, education (VA and FL) to work as an Senior VP with Management Corp Management Corp (Talent/HR). Low giving capacity based on CS research. Update: Em, Kyle and Nadia have met with Dr. Christy. Next Step: If support from Governance Committee, have a few board members including Bing and Maritere, meet with Dr. Christy.

Profile: While at Obama’s Office of Science and Technology, Kumar played a key advisor role to the launch of the Makers + Mentors Network at Citizen Schools. Now in his role at Schmidt Futures, Kumar has directed $1.5M to CS Kumar Garg, and has introduced CS to several major other prospective donors. It will be Managing Director, interesting to see if Kumar heads back to the White House if the federal Schmidt Futures administration turns over. Medium giving capacity based on CS research Next Step: If interest from Governance Committee, Em to discuss idea with Kumar.

Profile: Erica’s career in education began as a corps member in Charlotte, . Erica went on to join New Leaders, a Erica Jordan-Thomas principal preparation program focused on developing transformative school Doctoral Candidate leaders. She served as an assistant principal and middle school principal. Low at Harvard Ed School giving capacity based on CS research. Next Step:. Em requested a meeting to discuss our Catalyst work and solicit her advice on partnership opportunities with peer CBOs.

Profile: Ryan has been a major champion and thought partner for Makers+Mentors Network at CS. While personal low giving capacity based on Ryan Kish CS research, Ryan has helped direct $1M in support over the last 6 years from Vice President of the Arconic Foundation. Arconic Foundation Next Step: If interest from Governance Committee, Colin could explore with Ryan and understand if there is policy from Arconic Foundation that would prevent Ryan from joining our board. 5 Q1 GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE MEETING PROSPECTS & NEXT STEPS

Profile: A graduate of Harvard Business School, Tarlin is an Education/Ed Tech executive working at the College Board. Medium giving capacity based on CS Tarlin Ray research. Vice President, Next Step: Em to reconnect in late October to catch up on his new role and College Connections discuss interest in potential Board service.

Profile: Purna Saggurti has been a champion of Citizen Schools and of Em’s leadership for years. He has been a personal donor ($10k/year) and supporter Purna Saggurti in terms of our partnership with BoA. High giving capacity based on CS Chairman, Global research. Corporate and Update: Em has cultivated Purna over the last few years. Investment Banking, Next Step: Lynn to set up call with Purna in late October to share news of our BoA BOA gifts and inquire about his interest/availability to join Board or CEO Council

Jeff Smith, Profile: Jeff has been a champion of CS’s Makers + Mentors Network from his Director of role at NACCE which is an important strategic partner for the Maker Fellows Innovation and program. Low giving capacity based on CS research Equity, National Next Step: If interest from Governance Committee, Colin could discuss with Association for Jeff. Community College Entrepreneurship

Profile: Eileen has been an important thought partner and supporter of CS’s Makers + Mentors Network. Eileen manages all of Genentech’s corp K-12 education grants. Genentech has given $400k to CS to date. High giving Eileen Yang. capacity based on CS research. Senior Manager of Update: Em has been cultivating Eileen for a while and discussed a potential Corp Citizenship for Board seat in early 2019. Eileen was new in her role at the time and asked to Genentech continue conversations while she settled into it. Update: Em read about Everett in Forbes and was impressed by his knowledge of education and expertise around technology platforms. Em reached out, with reference to Ed Skloot and Kumar Garg, in March 2019 and had call on Sept 17, 2019 and sent materials. (As an aside, Everett’s Everett Harper, partner is a former Citizen Schools Campus Director). Em sent follow-up CEO Truss email on Dec 13,2019 to explore ways Truss employees could get involved in our work. Medium giving capacity based on CS research.

Next Step: Em to reach back out to Everett to discuss Department of Defense partnership (Truss Works contracts with them).

Update: Todd Eckler met with Lionel on Nov 13, 2019 about CS. Todd and Lionel Harris, Em met with Lionel to discuss CS and Nat’l board in winter 2020. Todd had HR Strategic call with Lionel on Oct 13, 2020 Medium giving capacity based on CS Advisor, research. Fidelity Next Step: Lynn/Todd to meet with Lionel about board engagement and Investments CS staff to connect Lionel to volunteer engagement opportunity.

Update: We have been cultivating Yvonne for a few years to join the board. Yvonne is now Managing Director and Co-Founder of Cove Hill Partners (with former nat’l board chair Andrew Balson). Em, Eric, Lynn, Mike Yvonne Hao, and other members of Governance Comm have met with Yvonne. Managing Yvonne has shared that she may be too busy with her new job on join the Director, Cove board. Yvonne has high giving capacity. Hill Partners Next Step: Mike to schedule call with Yvonne to check in on her own interest in joining board and/or if she has suggestions of 1-2 individuals we should add to prospect list (note: Lynn happy to join this mtg) 7 Q1 GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE MEETING IDEAS TO EXPAND PROSPECT LIST

1. Encourage board members to suggest names. Have individual conversations with board members that have joined board in past two years to discuss whether they have any suggestions.

2. Talk to select champions that likely won’t have time to join national board but might have a suggestion of an emerging leader that fits our prioritized criteria a. Em will talk with Greg Shell b. Mike and Lynn will talk with Yvonne Hao c. Todd will talk with Lionel Harris

3. Consider any other senior leaders from our largest corporate funders
