Long ago was ruled by the British. The British wanted to keep India poor and backward. This made the Indians very unhappy. Many Indians fought for India’s freedom from the British people. Many Indian people died too. On 15th August 1947 India finally became a free country. We remember the leaders who helped India become an independent country. They protested peacefully, refused to pay taxes to the British government and refused to buy, sell and use the British made goods and also they reused to work in offices run by the British. We have learnt a lot from our leaders. They have taught us to work hard, lead to simple life, live peacefully, treat everyone equally, to feel proud of India’s art and culture and to fight for our rights.
