The Cruelest of Fates

As we all walked out of Aunt Sara’s room, I noticed the sun had begun to cast it’s golden, afternoon rays throughout the long hallway leading back downstairs. I walked behind Nona and Professor Simpson as I took in the smell and granduer of the magnificent estate. Fresh Lillies in a nearby vase added to the fragrance of the stately, old castle=like mansion. I couldn’t help but twirl around and take in all the familiar sights and smells. I realized that I had missed this place...and now...my thoughts went from the excitement of seeing and being here again to...Aunt Sara. I could still see her lying in that hospital bed. I could still feel the touch of her warm hand before she let go of mine. She was truly a beautiful picture of a woman; her white hair pulled ever so neatly to one side and streaming in silky waves down her chest. The soft pink gown that gave her face a glow, even afterwards, after she died. And Death...I remember its feel when my grandfather died. The sadness floating all around me in heavy, dark clouds, raining tears on all the faces of the people I love...I was doing the best I could not to feel those Nashville Christian School, Bear Cubs From Pack 382 Sam Nestor, Thomas Sellers, Gabe clouds beginning to hover over our heads. Have you ever gone for a hike deep inside Bowie Park, found yourself on an unfamil- iar, unmarked trail, and won- dered how far you’re going to have to walk before you make it back to the Nature Center and civilization? That’s actually happened to me a couple of times, and Park Naturalist Melissa Bell says it’s a fairly common occurrence among park visitors. But not to worry.
