Shock Wave 2 (2020) Un Blockbuster Esplosivo E Ben Diretto Che Offre Un Efficace Mix Di Tensione Investigativa E Action Puro Shock Wave 2 (2020) Un blockbuster esplosivo e ben diretto che offre un efficace mix di tensione investigativa e action puro. Un film di Herman Yau con Andy Lau, Ching Wan Lau, Ni Ni, Sean Tierney, Jai Day, Jason J Lai. Genere Azione durata 120 minuti. Produzione Hong Kong, Cina 2020. - [email protected].

Press release for 9 June, 2021 For immediate publication/release UDINE – A throwdown is when you get knocked to the ground. It's an action, and even more a state of mind, that inspired one of Johnnie To's masterpieces and which perfectly captures the dynamics - social, political, health and emotional - of the last year and a half. There's no need to go over why - what we need, what we really need, is to stay focused on the "after" part. The action, and even more so the state of mind, that every throw down triggers: that instinct to get back up. The instinct to not stay down there, where the body blows of history have made us fall. That's the idea - we might even call it the operational philosophy - behind the Far East Film Festival 23: documenting the “after”. Showing a world, the world of Asian cinema, which refuses to resign itself to immobility and is intent on getting back on its feet again..

  • Script Crisis and Literary Modernity in China, 1916-1958 Zhong Yurou
Script Crisis and Literary Modernity in China, 1916-1958 Zhong Yurou Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2014 © 2014 Yurou Zhong All rights reserved ABSTRACT Script Crisis and Literary Modernity in China, 1916-1958 Yurou Zhong This dissertation examines the modern Chinese script crisis in twentieth-century China. It situates the Chinese script crisis within the modern phenomenon of phonocentrism – the systematic privileging of speech over writing. It depicts the Chinese experience as an integral part of a worldwide crisis of non-alphabetic scripts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It places the crisis of Chinese characters at the center of the making of modern Chinese language, literature, and culture. It investigates how the script crisis and the ensuing script revolution intersect with significant historical processes such as the Chinese engagement in the two World Wars, national and international education movements, the Communist revolution, and national salvation. Since the late nineteenth century, the Chinese writing system began to be targeted as the roadblock to literacy, science and democracy. Chinese and foreign scholars took the abolition of Chinese script to be the condition of modernity. A script revolution was launched as the Chinese response to the script crisis. This dissertation traces the beginning of the crisis to 1916, when Chao Yuen Ren published his English article “The Problem of the Chinese Language,” sweeping away all theoretical oppositions to alphabetizing the Chinese script. This was followed by two major movements dedicated to the task of eradicating Chinese characters: First, the Chinese Romanization Movement spearheaded by a group of Chinese and international scholars which was quickly endorsed by the Guomingdang (GMD) Nationalist government in the 1920s; Second, the dissident Chinese Latinization Movement initiated in the Soviet Union and championed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the 1930s.

  • Language Unification, Labor and Ideology*
    * Language Unification, Labor and Ideology Yang You Harvard University Last Updated: March 2018 Abstract By exploring an instance of nationwide language education reform—the Chinese Pinyin Act of 1958-1960—we estimate the effects of language unification using a difference-in-difference approach by interacting a birth cohort exposure dummy with the linguistic distances between local languages and Putonghua—modern standardized Mandarin. This paper presents five main findings: (1) learning Putonghua results in modest short-term negative effects, but long-term positive effects on educational attainment; (2) learning Putonghua increases rural households’ non-agricultural employment; (3) sharing a common language empowers workers to migrate across provinces and language regions; and (4) using a unified language fosters patriotism, a stronger national identity, a more positive subjective evaluation of China, and even more distrust in people of another nationality. One plausible channel is that the common language builds national identity by expanding exposure to audio-based media (e.g., radio, cell phone, and the internet); and (5) the post-reform population shows more skepticism about democracy, a better subjective evaluation of governance, and greater support for government intervention over economic liberalism. These changes in ideology and social preferences are consistent with the political doctrine of the Communist Party of China.
