Historical Note:

Colonel William Fitzhugh Lee, Jr. was born on April 27, 1832 in Richmond County, . A Confederate in the Civil War, he fought in the 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment, Stonewall Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. He was injured in the battle of Manassas (the Battle of Bull Run) and subsequently died on July 29, 1861.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection includes two letters. The first letter is from Edwin J. Lee, aide-de-camp of Stonewall Jackson, to his aunt, November 1861. It describes the Battle of Manassas, Wm. F. Lee being wounded, and his subsequent death. The second letter is from J.E.B. Stuart to Wm. F. Lee's widow, 1863. The letter expresses friendship, concern for her welfare, and confidence in a confederate victory.
