Ghuznee Prize money, being a list of East India Company Soldiers awarded the prize money awarded for the siege of Ghuznee in Afghanistan 1839, taken from India Office Record L/MIL/5/259. Compiled by B.J. Hodkinson June 2017© This is a complete list of the names in the list, with Limerick men or those with known Limerick connections marked in red. A corresponding prize list for those who were in the Queen’s Army does not seem to have survived. Names struck through are struck through in the original. Those marked “dead” are those who died between the capture of Ghuznee and the eventual payment of the prize money some 9 years later. In some instances the name of the heir is given. Bengal officers’ names have been checked against V.C.P. Hodson, Officers of the Bengal Army 1758- 1834, 6 vols, 1926 onwards. Some junior officers enlisted after the 1834 cut off. N.B. The list comprises European soldiers only, so for a native regiment only the officers are listed and not the rank and file.
