We have had a good year, membership remains steady, we continue to be strong financially and we’re still almost free to join. We are fortunate to have strong associations with our friends at LAMB and OECC in Kamloops and others. We will continue to develop close ties with other British Car Clubs. Our membership is always quick to participate and help in making our events, meetings and runs fun and interesting. A helping hand, an expert opinion and good camaraderie is always available. At our next meeting in January, you will be electing a new executive. Some familiar faces will not be running next year and they will be surely missed. To anyone who has thought about donating time, personally I have found it to be a rewarding experience and I would urge you to give it a try. As I write this we have more than 50 tickets spoken for to our annual Christmas banquet on November 24. We still have room for anyone who wants to join in. • 2011 Event Report
2011 Event Report “The right crowd” was part of the slogan that was used to promote Brooklands. This weekend the ‘Right Crowd’ was at Mallory Park for the 6th Festival of 1000 Bikes to be held at this delightful 1.35 mile Leicestershire circuit. Over 22,000 Enthusiasts flocked thorough the gates for the three days of nostalgia and excitement. There were the sights, the sounds and the smells of the iconic machines of yesteryear combined with the spectacle of the stars of yesteryear strutting their stuff on the machines that made them famous and the unique opportunity to mingle freely with them in the ‘Race Paddock’ (Try that at any other prestigious 2 or 4 wheel event!) More than 1,200 enthusiasts had the opportunity to exercise their own machines which ranged from 25cc to 1,500 cc and from 1902 to 2011 in a slickly co-ordinated series of more than 50 track sessions over the two days with Sunday being reserved for ‘Race Machinery’ The weather was kind, the beer tent was excellent and the “Paddock Cafe’s” famous breakfasts were in great demand. Evening entertainment included ‘ The Classic Racer’ magazine ‘Stars on Stage’ hosted by Charlie Williams and a live band in the marquee on both Friday and Saturday but for many it was an opportunity to meet old friends, make new ones and generally chew the fat over a few mugs of Horlicks.... The autojumble was interesting and the 50 strong “Avenue of Clubs was very popular–with imaginative and ‘educational’ displays that welcomed the thousands of enthusiasts who thronged the stands So many highlights to remember, but Kenny Roberts “on the back wheel” or the “Ago versus Cooper” celebration of the 40th anniversary of their ‘Race of the Year’ battle here at Mallory has to stand out – together with the spectacle of the NMM Norton Rotaries in full cry and the extraordinary sights and sounds of the VMCC Sprint Section on the Kirby Straight on Sunday.
