  • Mg Car Club History
MG CAR CLUB HISTORY The first complete MG Car Club History was compiled by the late Mike Hawke and published in 2000 to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Club. The book was soon out of print, there was clearly a need for a replacement and Peter Browning volunteered to edit an enlarged and updated version. This is the first of a multi-part series. It is a little over six years since I put together a page of readers’ correspondence for The Light Car including the letter that started it all. It appeared over the signature of one Roy Marsh and was published in the issue of September 5, 1930. Why Not an MG Club? Being a very interested reader of The Light Car and Cyclecar, I notice that a number of one make clubs have been formed lately with very satisfactory results. Now Midget enthusiasts, what about an MG Car Club? There are hundreds of you and surely some very enjoyable social runs and trials could be arranged. Perhaps MG owners would let me have their opinions on the idea. Quite brief and to the point, it took immediate effect. That was as inevitable as the subsequent growth of the Club. You cannot have a lot of people rushing round the country in cars like MGs without wanting to get together. Various people wrote to various other people. HM Post Office was enriched by numerous pennies inserted in numerous slots and one or two more letters appeared in The Light Car. The upshot of it all was an announcement in that journal of an inaugural rally on October 12 for the purpose of formally bringing the Club into being.

IVAO GP World Tour 2014 Grand Prix World Tour 2014 You are more than welcome on the Grand Prix World Tour 2014! The 2014 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season will be the 66th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Created by: Laszlo Geller (VID: 260564) IVAO GP World Tour 2014 What is Grand Prix? Boasting 63 years of history, MotoGP™ is the oldest of all motorsports World Championships - its first annual competition having been held in 1949.From the early 1900s motorcycle Grands Prix were held in various countries and in 1938 the predecessor to the current FIM, the FICM (Fédération Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes), announced a European Championship. However, the start of the Second World War interrupted the competition and it then took some time after the war for fuel to become available, before a truly international series could be created. EARLY DAYS When the first formal World Championship was held in 1949 Grand Prix racing comprised four solo classes, with the inaugural ‘premier class’ 500cc title being won by British rider Leslie Graham on AJS machinery. Another Brit, Freddie Frith (Velocette) took the first ever 350cc World title, while Italians Bruno Ruffo (Moto Guzzi) and Nello Pagani (Mondial) were the first 250cc and 125cc World Champions respectively. A 600cc sidecar championship in the same season was won by Britons Eric Oliver and Denis Jenkinson with Norton machinery, though the sidecar category became a 500cc competition in 1951. The Italian manufacturers such as the aforementioned Mondial and Moto Guzzi firms, along with companies such as Gilera and MV Agusta, dominated the World Championships during the 1950s, reflecting the strength of the country’s motorcycle industry at the time.

It’s a fantastic moment in time and unlikely ever to be repeated. Can you imagine English Heritage letting nasty, oily motorcyclists, let alone their nastier, oilier bikes(!) anywhere near Stonehenge now? I mean, we wouldn’t want to damage the stones that have survived 4000 years with our BSAs… Stonehenge Section visits..............Stonehenge. By Betsy Barber. In the late 80's when I was Madame Chairman of the Stonehenge Section the committee decided it would be a good idea for local publicity to have a photo of the Section taken at the stones. The photo could be circulated to the local press and, as it happened, I had a good contact at the Salisbury Journal in the form of Roger Elliott their staff photographer. We, myself and the late Commander Francis Hay RN a committee member, approached the authorities to gain permission to assemble a group of members and their bikes behind the barriers but in front of the stones.
