Thursday 23 November 2017 A Night to Remember with Judah Kelly The Voice Australia’s most successful winner in four years, Judah Kelly, will be a special guest performer at this year’s Dementia Australia’s annual fundraising gala dinner A Night to Remember. Judah will bring his country with soul style to the gala, with performances including his number one iTunes charting single ‘Count On Me’ to help raise awareness of the role that carers play in looking after people with dementia. Judah is a seasoned performer with many notable accomplishments. He appeared at the Queensland’s Country Music Festival Circuit, and was the Champion of Champions overall winner 2010 & 2013, 2014, Trans-Tasman entertainer of the year runner-up, and scholarship awarded graduate from the Australian Academy of Country Music. The evening will be hosted by Network Ten’s Natarsha Belling, who will be joined by a host of celebrity guests for music, entertainment, live auctions, drinks and three courses of delectable fine dining. The event will feature auctions of a wide variety of goods including several exclusive holiday packages and money-can’t-buy experiences. This year, all money raised will go towards funding a new program ‘Better Life for Carers’, which aims to increase the ability of carers to focus on their own health and wellbeing through enhancing self-care skills, and improving optimism and resilience. Dementia Australia Executive Director, Client Services & Education Susan McCarthy said the organisation was delighted to once again be hosting the popular event. “A Night to Remember promises to be a fun evening for all involved, and provides a wonderful opportunity to come together, shed light on an important issue, and raise money to support carers and the vital role they play in the lives of people living with dementia in our community,” she said.

  • Connecting SEQ 2031 an Integrated Regional Transport Plan for South East Queensland
Connecting SEQ 2031 An Integrated Regional Transport Plan for South East Queensland Tomorrow’s Queensland: strong, green, smart, healthy and fair Queensland AUSTRALIA south-east Queensland 1 Foreword Vision for a sustainable transport system As south-east Queensland's population continues to grow, we need a transport system that will foster our economic prosperity, sustainability and quality of life into the future. It is clear that road traffic cannot continue to grow at current rates without significant environmental and economic impacts on our communities. Connecting SEQ 2031 – An Integrated Regional Transport Plan for South East Queensland is the Queensland Government's vision for meeting the transport challenge over the next 20 years. Its purpose is to provide a coherent guide to all levels of government in making transport policy and investment decisions. Land use planning and transport planning go hand in hand, so Connecting SEQ 2031 is designed to work in partnership with the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009–2031 and the Queensland Government's new Queensland Infrastructure Plan. By planning for and managing growth within the existing urban footprint, we can create higher density communities and move people around more easily – whether by car, bus, train, ferry or by walking and cycling. To achieve this, our travel patterns need to fundamentally change by: • doubling the share of active transport (such as walking and cycling) from 10% to 20% of all trips • doubling the share of public transport from 7% to 14% of all trips • reducing the share of trips taken in private motor vehicles from 83% to 66%.

  • The Application of the Park & Ride and Tod Concepts to Develop a New
THE APPLICATION OF THE PARK & RIDE AND TOD CONCEPTS TO DEVELOP A NEW FRAMEWORK THAT CAN MAXIMISE PUBLIC TRANSPORT PATRONAGE By Simon Ginn BSc (Hons); Dip Mkt Man; Dip Town Planning; MEng Sc(Civil) School of Civil Engineering Queensland University of Technology Australia A thesis submitted for the degree of Masters of Applied Science (Research) in the Faculty of Built Environment, Queensland University of Technology NOVEMBER 2009 ABSTRACT With growing concern over the use of the car in our urbanized society, there have emerged a number of lobby groups and professional bodies promoting a return to public transport, walking and cycling, with the urban village as the key driving land use, as a means of making our cities’ transportation systems more sustainable. This research has aimed at developing a framework applicable to the Australian setting that can facilitate increased passenger patronage of rail based urban transport systems from adjacent or associated land uses. The framework specifically tested the application of the Park & Ride and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concepts and their applicability within the cultural, institutional, political and transit operational characteristics of Australian society. The researcher found that, although the application of the TOD concept had been limited to small pockets of town houses and mixed use developments around stations, the development industry and emerging groups within the community are posed to embrace the concept and bring with it increased rail patronage. The lack of a clear commitment to infrastructure and supporting land uses is a major barrier to the implementation of TODs. The research findings demonstrated significant scope for the size of a TOD to expand to a much greater radius of activity from the public transport interchange, than the commonly quoted 400 to 600 meters, thus incorporating many more residents and potential patrons.
