CURRENT RESIDENT RE: 2021 Street Resurfacing Program-Construction The City of Batavia is pleased to inform you that the street adjacent to your home has been included for resurfacing this year. See the attached exhibit for the limits of the proposed work. The work will generally include curb repairs, sidewalk repairs, utility repairs/adjustments and a new asphalt overlay. Below are some important details regarding this project. CONTRACTOR: The contract has been awarded to Builders Paving Company of Hillside, IL. START DATE: The construction work is tentatively scheduled to begin during the week of August 14. Please visit the Sidewalk and Street Improvements page on the City’s website at http://www.cityofbatavia.net/625/Sidewalk-and-Street-Improvements for updates on the start dates and construction updates for each street. Look under the Street Resurfacing Program. COMPLETION DATE: The completion date for this project is October 1, 2020. The completion date schedule may be adjusted as weather and unforeseen conditions warrant. IMPROVEMENTS & PROCESS: 1. Signage and Saw Cutting: - The first phase of the roadway work will involve the installation of traffic control signs and saw cutting of the concrete curb and sidewalk to be replaced. 2. Curb & Sidewalk Replacement: The next step will involve the removal and replacement of the concrete curb and sidewalk areas that need repairs. Once new materials are replaced, there will be several days of cure time before the next stage of work will begin. 3. Pavement Milling and resurfacing: This operation consists of milling off the top asphalt surface to remove the deteriorating layer. The roadway will be open to traffic with flaggers in the area directing traffic around the trucks and milling machine. Roadways will receive either 2-inches of asphalt removal. Once milling is completed, the placement of asphalt driving surface for the roadway will take place. The street will be open to traffic during all steps in the process with flaggers in the area directing traffic around the trucks. Fresh oil will be placed on the roadway during all of these steps and “FRESH OIL” signs will be placed at the ends of each street 24 hours before the oil is sprayed on the street. 4. Asphalt Driveway Aprons: Asphalt driveway aprons that require repairs due to the curb and sidewalk work typically takes place prior to the final asphalt surface. 5. Restoration: This process involves the placement of topsoil and seed in those parkway areas that require restoration. 6. Pavement Marking: This process involves placement of any pavement marking required. Not all locations require pavement markings. PROPERTY ACCESS: The street will remain open to traffic during construction. Only the Residents that will be affected by the curb or sidewalk work through their DRIVEWAYS will receive an ORANGE door hangar notice at least 24 hours prior to construction. This notice will contain a date on which vehicles must be removed from the driveways or garages since residents may not have access to their driveway for 2 (two) weeks. These residents will need to park on the other side of the street or on street outside the project limit. The city recommends that the orange door hanger notice be displayed on your vehicle’s rear-view mirror to ensure that the Batavia Police Department does not issue a ticket. PARKING: “NO PARKING” signs will be posted in the parkway during some phases of the project, when vehicles cannot be parked on the street. If you will be out of town during construction, please do not leave your vehicle parked on the street. Contact the Public Works Department (630-454-2750) to coordinate where to leave your vehicle. MAIL SERVICE: Mail service will not be interrupted during construction. GARBAGE SERVICE: Garbage service will not be interrupted during construction. Please leave your garbage at the end of your driveway on your normally scheduled pick up day by 6 AM as they may pick up garbage in this area earlier than normal to avoid the construction work. SCHOOL BUS STOPS: There are no changes anticipated to the bus stops. Should something change you will be notified.
