  • The Influence of Habitat Type on the Distribution of Carabid Beetles in Traditionally Managed “Dehesa” Ecosystems in NW Spain
© Entomologica Fennica. 11 October 2006 The influence of habitat type on the distribution of carabid beetles in traditionally managed “dehesa” ecosystems in NW Spain Angela Taboada, D. Johan Kotze, José M. Salgado & Reyes Tárrega Taboada, A., Kotze, D. J., Salgado, J. M. & Tárrega, R. 2006: The influence of habitat type on the distribution of carabid beetles in traditionally managed “dehesa” ecosystems in NW Spain. — Entomol. Fennica 17: 284–295. We investigated the responses of carabid beetles to habitat type at the local scale in traditionally managed “dehesa” ecosystems in NW Spain. The beetles were sampled from two habitat types (central grassland and surrounding forested zone) of five “dehesa” ecosystems, from May to October 2004. A total of 4,374 carabid individuals and 55 species were captured using pitfall trapping. Most of the species were collected from both habitat types, probably due to open spaces created between old-growth trees in the forested zone. Differences in carabid as- semblage composition were found mainly due to Harpalus species characteristic from the central grassland and a few forest specialist species exclusively found in the forested zone. The maintenance of the “dehesa” structure may be of impor- tance for carabid species adapted to the variety of habitats created, and requires the continuation of traditional management practices. A. Bol. San. Veg. E.U.I.T.Agrícolas (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid). • Coleoptera Chrysomelidae) of Sicily: Recent Records and Updated Checklist
DOI: 10.1478/AAPP.982A7 AAPP j Atti della Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali ISSN 1825-1242 Vol. 98, No. 2, A7 (2020) THE CASSIDINAE AND CRYPTOCEPHALINI (COLEOPTERA CHRYSOMELIDAE) OF SICILY: RECENT RECORDS AND UPDATED CHECKLIST COSIMO BAVIERA a∗ AND DAVIDE SASSI b ABSTRACT. This paper compiles an updated checklist of the Sicilian Cassidinae and Cryptocephalini species (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae, Cassidinae and Cryptocephalinae) starting from a critical bibliographic screening and adding new material, mainly collected by the first author in the last few decades. A total of 61 species is reported, withnew data for many rarely collected taxa. The provided data expand the known distribution of many uncommon species in Sicily. Two species are recorded for the first time: Cassida inopinata Sassi and Borowiec, 2006 and Cryptocephalus (Cryptocephalus) bimaculatus Fabricius, 1781 and two uncertain presences are confirmed: Cassida deflorata Suffrian, 1844 and Cassida nobilis Linné, 1758. The presence of other sixteen species is considered questionable and needs further confirmation. 1. Introduction Leaf beetles are all phytophagous Coleoptera. They are usually of a rather stout build, with a rounded or oval shape, often brightly coloured or with metallic hues. Worldwide some 32500 species in 2114 genera of Chrysomelidae have been described (Slipi´ nski´ et al. 2011), the majority of which occur in the tropics as is the case with numerous other Coleoptera families. Currently, the leaf beetle subfamily Cassidinae comprises the tortoise beetles (Cassidinae s. str.) and the hispine beetles (Hispinae s. str.) (Borowiec 1995; Hsiao and Windsor 1999; Chaboo 2007). So far, the Cassidinae list about 6300 described species within more than 340 genera, being the second most speciose subfamily of leaf beetles (Borowiec and Swi˛etoja´ nska´ 2014).

Dalum area (located in Gijang-gun, Busan, Korea) for our survey, particularly The pine wilt disease zone and the non-permanent control area. This study investigates the effect of pine wilt disease on the distribution of beetle species in the process of ecosystem change due to insect control; pine forests treated for pine wilt disease were divided into insect control and non-control sites, respectively. The results of this study are as follows. Twen tyseven species belongs to 12 families were identified from 969 ground beetles collected from this sites. Species richness was the highest in Coleoptera (6 species, 469 individuals). In the control site, 21 species belongs to 10 families were identified from 228 individuals, while 24 species of 11 families from 533 individuals in the non-control area. The highest number of species were noted in June and July from the non- control and control sites, respectively. The highest number of insects in control and non-control sites was observed in July, while the lowest in September.

Facultad de Biología. Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. 15706 Santiago de Compostela. España. Recibido: 1-VI-2003. ABSTRACT
