August 11, 2021 Update Dear Neighbours, I would like to thank all Team Toronto partners for making getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as easy as possible and thank you Toronto for rolling up your sleeves and getting vaccinated. If you haven’t booked your first or second COVID-19 dose, you can now walk-in to any of the City-run vaccination clinics. Details are available at www.toronto.ca/covid19. Toronto Heat Warning issued for Toronto by Environment and Climate Change Canada – News Release. Yesterday, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a Heat Warning for Toronto, which continues until further notice. See the news release for further details and a list of the City’s Emergency Cooling Centre locations. More tips to protect yourself from the heat are available at https://www.toronto.ca/keepcool. When a Heat Warning is declared, those who need assistance or have heat-related inquiries can call 311. Use this map to find a testing location near you. The City of Toronto is extending hours at select outdoor pools to help residents cool off during Heat Warning – News Release. To help Torontonians keep cool, the City of Toronto is temporarily extending pool hours at seven outdoor pools. In Scarborough, McGregor Park, 2231 Lawrence Ave. East, will be open, weather permitting, until 11:45 p.m. tonight and may continue to operate with extended hours until the Heat Warning is cancelled. On August 14, 15, 21, and 22, volunteers from Parents Engaged in Education will be outside the Toronto Zoo Entrance collecting donations of school supplies to send to kids before the school year starts. Guildwood GO Nightwork – Starting Monday, August 9 through to September, there will be nightwork underway at the Guildwood GO station on weekdays from 7pm to 5am. Impacts to the surrounding community include dust and noise but is expected to be minimal in nature. Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough would like to invite you to a free informative workshop on the different housing options for seniors. Housing options of seniors include private market housing, subsidized housing and supporting housing options for seniors with mental health concerns. Youth attending The Native Learning Centre East located at Sir Wilfrid Laurier CI are in need of donated school supplies such as backpacks, water bottles, lunch containers, binders, calculators, glue sticks, pencil crayons, duo tangs, folders, rulers, erasers, loose leaf paper, pencils, tape, masks and more.
