PLANNER PROJECT 2016 ... FOLLOWING the AKRON SOUND! 1 PLANNER PROJECT 2016 ... FOLLOWING the AKRON SOUND! KENT - AKRON – CANTON – CUYAHOGA FALLS – MASSILLON VENUES GROUPS ARTISTS SPECIAL INDIVIDUALS / - – – / FROM THE YEARS / 1946, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1977, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016. Designed to be a five-year project; in this edition, only items found in years ending in 1 or 6 are included. This 65,000-word project now contains over 1,300 specific entries! EDITOR’S NOTE: Listed below are venues, performers, media, events, and specialty items including automobiles (when possible), highlighting Akron, Kent, Canton, Cuyahoga Falls, & Massillon related items currently found in Planner Project 2016! The years ending with the years 1 and 6 have become ‘magical,’ allowing for a most unique connection between past and present, such as following the Rubber City Rebels as King Cobra in 1976 at the B.B.C.; Devo playing at the Crypt with Pere Ubu that December; and then the Rebels reuniting to play in 2001. And, following the Numbers band from 1971 at the Kove, to the Beachland tribute in 2016! Or Joe Walsh from playing with the Measles in 1966, to rocking Blossom 50 years later with Bad Company. And there is the ability to follow so many others such as Tracey Thomas, Bob Ethington, Chris Butler, and Harvey Gold. [Please note this is a ROUGH final draft which may be altered as new material is added as a final “Layer.” Please note too, that all text has to fit within existing text blocks, and may not flow perfectly!] This format also allows me to honor the memory of several local artists including Robt. Lockwood, Jr.; John Bassette; station owner Carl Hirsch; Alan Freed; Edgar Reynolds (Wild Giraffes), record promoter Steve Popovich; DJ Tommy Edwards; WGAR-FM DJ Chuck Collier; rock pioneer Leo M. Mintz, and Patty Donahue (on the same page which features her appearance with the Waitresses in 1981); and national artists including David Bowie; Natalie Cole; Merle Haggard; and Clarence Clemons. Volume 19 Issue 6 June 1, 2019 The 1958 - 1960 Lincolns, Interesting Automobiles A totally different Lincoln from the ones who came before it. Experiencing a shortage of articles from our members, we went back into the archives of Continental Comments for an interesting article; which you might enjoy. Lincoln models 1958 through 1960 were both interesting from a mechanical and stylistic standpoint. A lot of folks were not quite sure if the new look of these models was something that they would really like over a period of time. Compared to the 1956 and 1957 models, they really were quite different. Boxier and somewhat larger by most measurements. Now some 60 years later, they are sort of coming into their own. Nice examples will bring a lot of money today, especially if they are convertibles. We have several of these models owned by North Star club members, and they do speak quite highly of them. This article was written by Tim Howley and appeared in the July August 2002 issue of Conti- nental Comments. It is an interesting story, and it looks at these models in a fairly object fashion. Welcome to the We hope you enjoy reading it. Northstar News, the The late Fifties is a fascinating era in automobile styling. It produced the ultimate in ba- roque automobile architecture, especially in the biggest American cars. We think of the 1959 monthly publication of Cadillac and 1957-59 Imperial as being the most interesting examples. But when you set the Northstar Region them alongside the 1958 Lincoln, and to a degree the 1959 and 1960 versions, they don't even of the Lincoln and begin to compare in terms of uniqueness of design.

  • MD Tour Press Release
Ubu Projex Press Information dated 2/28/11 [email protected] The Annotated Modern Dance Pere Ubu tours Europe in May 2011 with a special program, "The Annotated Modern Dance." The band will perform its seminal debut album in its entirety along with the Hearpen singles that preceded it. Brief anecdotes will precede the songs. "The Modern Dance" was released in February 1978 and stunned the pop and punk worlds with its vision and audac- ity. It quickly became a fixture in Great / Most Influential Albums Of All Time lists. Jon Savage, Sounds, 2/11/78 Uh-oh, this is getting frustrating, trying to tell you how good this is - black and white is an inadequate substitute for the impact heard... This is a brilliant debut. Granted it lacks the superficial accessibility of lesser works, but this time around the aroma lingers. This is built to last! Ubu's world is rarely comfortable, full of the space beyond the electric light and what it does to people, but always direct and unwavering. And courageous. Ian Birch, Melody Maker, 3/18/78 It's a devastating debut...this album has struck me with a vengeance. Because it delivers such a powerful, complex and open-ended punch, it's almost impossible at such an early stage to explain why or how in full detail. David Stubbs, Uncut, August 2006 - 5 Stars Announced by the siren squeal of Allen Ravenstine's analogue synth which launches "Non- Alignment Pact," The Modern Dance is a product of Cleveland, the living model of punk's post-industrial wasteland.

Deliciously Crazy By Order Of Mayor Pawlicki, Pere Ubu (2CD, Cherry Red) When I interviews David Thomas, lead singer of Pere Ubu, back the end of the 20th Century, he had this to say about gigs: 'We don't like touring. We like the playing but not the driving. We don't like being in the newspaper. We don't have anything to say that anybody wants to hear. We don't care. I think that sums it up.' Mind you, he also said that he 'always thought [Pere Ubu] were a very traditional rock band. No, we are a very traditional rock band and always have been. It's not our fault that others have abandoned their roots and culture and traditions.'
