But, wait — it’s not what you think. More than half of the companies on the Manitoba’s Top Employers list offer maternity leave top-up to new mothers and precisely half make paternity leave top-up available to new dads. That’s not all. Two companies, RAPID RTC, a software developer specializing in the automotive and agricultural sectors, and insurance giant Canada Life offer in vitro fertilization subsidies to employees who can’t conceive naturally. RAPID RTC’s subsidy is up to $15,000 while Canada Life offers $3,000. And two more employers, Manitoba Hydro and Roquette Canada, which operates a massive pea protein plant in Portage la Prairie, offer adoption assistance. Hydro’s benefit tops out at $10,000 while Roquette offers $500. “Those types of benefits were unheard of 14 years ago, when the Manitoba competition was launched,” said Tony Meehan, founder and president of Mediacorp Canada Inc., which organizes the annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. The program is in its 20th year nationally and its 14th in Manitoba. Meehan said the editorial team at Mediacorp doesn’t get tired of scouring the country looking for employers with interesting stories of doing things differently in their industry or region. “Each year, companies bare their souls to us.     Madison 115 - 24 kV Station Project ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REPORT February 2013 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Manitoba Hydro is proposing to construct a new 115 – 24 kilovolt (kV) station (Madison Station) at 555 Madison Street, south of Ellice Avenue, near Century Street, in the City of Winnipeg. The purpose of the new Madison 115 – 24 kV Station is to ensure reliable electrical supply to customers, address load growth, as well as safety and reliability issues associated with the aging St. James Station (located south of the proposed station site on St. James Street at Portage Avenue). The anticipated in-service date for the project is 2015 with construction activities planned to commence in 2013. The proposed site for the new station is owned by Manitoba Hydro and is located adjacent to an existing Manitoba Hydro right-of-way. There is an existing building and parking lot at 555 Madison Street which will be decommissioned and demolished as part of the project. The concept for Madison Station is for the 115 and 24 kV station components to be air insulated. There is a potential that the footprint for the actual station site could be smaller if either or both of the 115 and 24 kV components are gas insulated.     2011/2012 Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Graduate Employment Survey Results The Asper School of Business - Career Development Centre conducted a telephone survey on the graduates of the 2011/2012 Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program. Out of a class of 440 students, 272 were contacted. Of these 272 graduates, 39 were not actively seeking full-time employment and were removed from the sample (see question 13). Therefore, the final sample size used to calculate the survey results was 233 graduates. All n’s do not equal 233 for the following reasons: Due to the skip pattern of the survey, not all respondents were required to answer all the questions. We can’t thank you enough - the people and organizations who get involved with the HSC Foundation through donating, fundraising, volunteering, helping with our events, or by informing Chair of the HSC Foundation Board, Tina Jones with President and CEO, others about the good work being carried out at the hospital. Jonathon Lyon In the pages ahead you will read how this remarkable support from our community has enabled us to build on that foundation. Together in the past year we raised more than $9.5 million for HSC Winnipeg – to fund important programs for patients and other priorities like research grants, new integrated operating rooms, and other initiatives that have a significant impact on the health care we deliver to patients. Many of you directly supported the Centre for Surgical Innovation, a focus of our fundraising efforts for good reason. The Centre contains specialized MRI equipment that saves lives and leads to faster recovery times for patients. Each year, more and more of our loved ones are benefiting from this facility and the technology inside. Earlier in the year we were also thrilled to celebrate the official opening of the integrated operating rooms with our esteemed donors, HSC and Foundation staff.

The peak level on Lake Manitoba of 249.1 m (817.2 ft) at the end of July was more than 1.2 m (4 ft) higher than the desirable top of range on Lake Manitoba and in late fall water levels were still approximately 0.6 m (2 ft) above the top of the desirable range. The unprecedented high levels were a result of numerous factors combined to cause the worst flooding ever recorded on Lake Manitoba. The ability to lower Lake Manitoba through the winter is restricted by the high potential of the risk of frazil ice jamming and associated flooding at freeze-up downstream of Lake St.
