Tomy began his journey from Mumbai crossing from West to East, the Indian, Pacific, Southern and Atlantic Oceans covering 23,100 nautical miles, rounding Australia, South America and Africa. The journey which took 151 days was officially received by the President of India. While at sea, Tomy's activities included boat-related work, cooking, reading books, and communicating through e-mails with friends and colleagues. Tomy was awarded the Kirti Chakra (second highest peacetime gallantry award in India) and the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award. Tomy speaks at the 10th Yi National Summit on his experience of navigating through the rough and tough, good, bad and nice times. Lieutenant Commander Abhilash Tomy, Indian Navy Moderated by: Sameer Jain, Head – Regional Management Tem (NR), Young Indians 1230 – 1315 hrs: Sanjay Kumar is a Professor and currently the Director at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies. He is also the Co-Director of Lokniti, a Research Program of the CSDS. He has recently published an edited volume Indian Youth and Electoral Politics: An Emerging Engagement. He has also published Changing Electoral Politics in Delhi: From Caste to Class and Measuring Voting Behaviour in India. As an expert in survey research, he has directed various National and State level studies conducted by the CSDS with his core area of research being electoral politics. Sanjay will addess the Young Indians National Summit on the evolution of Indian youth with specific reference to the studies and research projects undertaken by him and share his thoughts on how an organization like Yi can play an active role in making things better. He resigned in 1983 to promote joint-venture company with the support of National Research Development Corporation and KSIDC to make innovative bio-medical devices in India. Between 1988 – 2013, he was the Managing Director of Terumo Penpol Ltd (TPL), which has the biggest of its kind plant in Asia outside Japan employing more than 1000 skilled people. With the projected expansion plan, TPL will become the largest manufacturer of blood bags in the world. As a recipient of numerous awards for management and business excellence, he is also an author with his title of recent book being, ‘On a clear day, you can see India’ and he speaks at the 10th Yi National Summit on ‘Identity and the Idea of India”. She was a journalist for ten years; having worked with ToI, The Statesman, The Asian Age and Delhi Mid Day before experimenting with creative writing, since 2008. Her books include a collection of short stories, and one of poems in Urdu, besides a non- fiction on the media. She was a national gliding champion; a gold medalist from the national cadet corps, who acquired a private pilots licence and who is fond of machines, motorbikes, arts & music. She had an advanced diploma in French from the Alliance Francaise, Paris and teaches/translates the language. Her social interventions include participation in the National Literacy Programme; the Teach India Project and story-telling sessions to educate teenagers via the National Book Trust and UNESCO. She speaks at the Young Indians 10th National Summit on themes closest to her heart, which include the safety and dignity of women; nation-building and character-building Sangita Menon Malhan, Author Moderated by: Talish Ray, Member, Yi (Delhi Chapter), Young Indians 1545 – 1630 hrs: In the course of a career of over four decades, Kiran Karnik has had the unique experience of straddling the diverse spheres of government, business and civil society with equal comfort and accomplishment. Currently, he is the Chairman of Oxfam India and IIIT and President of India Habitat Centre. He is a Director on the Board of RBI and an Independent Director on a few company Boards. He was the President of NASSCOM, MDr at Discovery Networks in India, Founder-Director of the Consortium for Educational Communication and worked for over 20 years at ISRO. He has worked in the UN at New York and Vienna as Special Assistant to the Secretary-General and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007. With his illustrious career, Kiran speaks at the 10th Yi National Summit on ‘Re-positioning and Re-imaging India’ by folding the future in through the youth Kiran Karnik, Chairman, Oxfam India & Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Moderated by Shankar Vanavarayar, Past National Chairman, Young Indians 1630 – 1715 hrs: An M.Phil. from Delhi University, it was in here that he met Badal Sircar and formed a theatre group called Workshop Theatre and worked on several plays with him. After 1.5 years with Badal , a deeply influenced and inspired Sudhir left FTII at Pune and then to Mumbai in 1980 to start his career as an Assistant Director and Scriptwriter in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. He also co-wrote the script of Saeed Mirza's Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho. He made his directorial debut with Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin in 1987 which won the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director and went on to make acclaimed films like Main Zinda Hoon, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Chameli and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Sudhir Mishra shares his thoughts on films being an effective medium of change and crafting the future of India through the youth. Having joined joined the IAS in 1972, he served at various execution and policy making levels in the State Government of Haryana and GoI including Chairman, NHAI, Secretary of Disinvestment; Secretary of Defence Production and Defence Secretary. He has served on the Boards of several leading companies like BHEL, Maruti Udyog Ltd., Andrew Yule Ltd., Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd., Coal India Ltd and NLC Ltd. He speaks at the 10th Yi National Summit on the role of the vigilance commission and his thoughts on the involvement of youth in governance and combating corruption. Pradeep Kumar, Central Vigilance Commissioner, The Central Vigilance Commission Moderated by: Srikant Suryanarayan, National Chairman, Young Indians 1045 – 1130 hrs: Deepa Malik is the first and only Indian swimmer, biker, Car Rallyist and athlete in her category of paraplegic disability. In spite of being paralysed from chest down, three tumor surgeries and 183 stitches between shoulder blades and a life on a wheelchair for the past 14 years that has not stopped the 44 year- old from taking up challenges. A lesson for all able and disables, she has done 8 days 1700 k.m. drive in minus degree temperatures on highest motorable roads. She has won numerous accolades and recognition for her participation in various adventure sports including the Arjuna Award 2012 from the President of India, 4 Limca world records, current Asia Record Holder, Person of the year, CavinKare National Ability Mastery Award and many more.
