If you provide unpaid support to help an adult live at home you are a carer. You might be caring for someone who is elderly and frail, has a long-term physical illness or disability, a learning disability, mental health issue or substance misuse problem. Caring may mean that you help with practical tasks such as washing, dressing, taking medicines, shopping or laundry, provide emotional support, keep an eye on someone to make sure that they are safe or look after someone when they go out. We work with the NHS and other organisations to provide support for carers. One of the services offered is a Carers’ Emergency Card. This is a free small card that identifies you as a carer in an emergency situation. It will alert anyone finding the card to the fact that you are a carer and that someone you care for may require assistance. Once issued with a card, in the event of an We also pay the Carers’ Federation to provide support to emergency you will have peace of mind that there is a 24- carers.
