The event took place on a cool day and the following were crowned EMOA Champions. It was suggested that there may be some things just to cover the most recent update to the basics, the roles of the Planner and Controller in regards to Event Safety, and possibly on the potential new map symbols being considered by the IOF. Coaching - The Annual Coaching Conference takes place in Crewe on 14th/15th January and the booking form is now available on the BO website. Clubs are asked to encourage their coaches to attend. Junior Squad – The Junior Squad had had a lot of activity including attending JIRCS in Scotland and a training weekend in Malham. Future Events: (i) 27 November 2016 – East Midlands Champs 2016 – LEI – Wakerley (ii) 12 March 2017 – CompassSport Cup Round – LOG – Burwell and Haugham (iii) 18 March 2018 – Midland Champs 2018 – LEI Belvoir Future Possible Events (i) Junior Inter-Regional Champs 2018 Page 4 EMEWS (ii) British Sprints / Middles 2019 – LEI / DVO (iii) 17 March 2019 – CompassSport Cup Heat 2019 – NOC (iv) Midland Champs 2020 – DVO (v) CompassSport Cup Final 2021 – Are EMOA interested in hosting? (vi) British / British Relays 2021 – Talking to other regions about possible use of their areas. (vii) Midland Champs 2022 - NOC British Orienteering EGM - The EGM passed option 1 which means membership fees for 2017 are £10 senior, £3.30 for Junior and £1.50 event levy. Club / Association Conference – A number of representatives attended the conference which covered a variety of interesting topics, and a couple of papers were shared by the committee. Amendments to the EMOA Constitution and Standing Orders - British Orienteering have identified words that need to be included in club and association constitutions in order to comply with child safety. It is planned to include these at the next EMOA AGM. At the recent EMOA AGM it was agreed that both Mark and Chris would stay on for one more year, over their 3 years maximum as stated in the standing orders. A change to the EMOA standing orders was therefore agreed with the words to be included under Election of Principal Officers that an officer can serve “for not more than 3 consecutive years, unless mutually agreed by the Principal Officers, when no other person has been nominated”. Air Dibbers - Amanda Roberts stated that LOG had borrowed the DVO air dibbers for their recent event. They wondered if it would be worth having a set of regional SI dibbers. The committee felt that it is not practical and would prove very costly at this stage. Dates and venues for future meetings - All meetings to be held at the Pace Room, St Mary’s Church, Clifton Village, Nottinghamshire at 7.30 p.m. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday January 30th 2017. The following meeting is scheduled for Monday April 3rd 2017. ----ooo---- Planners & Controllers Conference The date for the Planners & Controllers Conference is set for Saturday March 4th. If anyone has any topics they wish to see covered at the session please let Chris Phillips know. ----ooo---- East Midlands Urban League 2016 The EM Urban League for 2016 has been defined and 4 events have taken place.     APPENDIX 5 APPENDIX 5: LANDSCAPE EVOLUTION This information has been taken from the Nottingham Landscape Guidelines published in 1997 undertaken by Nottinghamshire County Council. Magnesian Limestone Ridge ‘There is still much to learn about the development of the landscapes of the Magnesian Limestone Ridge . Considered to have been a remote wooded area, of late interest to settlers, it has often been considered only as part of Sherwood Forest. While this latter is indeed true, it is not the whole story which, for the want of detailed study, can only be sketched in outline and with some imprecision. Little coherent can be said about the prehistoric and Roman landscapes of the region. Evidence of some of the earlier human occupation and activity in the East Midlands, during the later Ice Ages and after, comes from Creswell Crags. The caves of the limestone gorge provided shelter for the hunter-gathers who 12,000 years ago moved through a landscape which was gradually changing from tundra to birch and pine forest and would eventually develop into mixed oak forest, with alder, oak, elm and lime. While Creswell is the best known and studied, other gorges in the Magnesian Limestone have caves which were occupied by both people and animals at these early dates, and also later. Human occupation of significance has yet to be demonstrated at Pleasley Vale, but the full potential of this gorge, which appears to be considerably filled, has not been explored. Later human activity on the Magnesian Limestone Ridge is indicated by the stone tools and fabrication debris of hunter-gatherer groups and of the first farmers and settlers of the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age, which are found on the surfaces of ploughed fields.

    SHI0001 Written evidence submitted by Mr I. Carr I would like to raise the issue of the ploughing up of river meadows on the Marches , in particular Herefordshire. Most of the river meadows are now in an arable rotation, with considerable slt movement in times of flooding. The affects the water quality and the aquatic environment as a result of silt deposition. The matter should be looked into. I would hesitate to recommend what action to take. December 2015 SHI0002 Written evidence submitted by Mr S. Norris 1. I am writing in response to your inquiry into soil health. By way of introduction, I am a PhD student that has just submitted my Thesis; I have been working/studying soil heath and ecology for 10 years. This response is the view of myself only and does not reflect the view of any organisation that I have been affiliated with. As this is a personal response to your inquiry I will attempt to keep my response short, however if you would like to further discuss my view I will be more than happy to assist in any way possible. How could soil health best be measured and monitored? How could the Government develop a strategy for tracking soil health? 2. Soil health should be measured through the organic matter content of soil, soil invertebrate biodiversity (Springtails and mites) and soil microbiology (fungi and bacterial) these test should be made mandatory for land managers, land owners and stakeholder in UK. These tests should be carryout every 5 years to ensure our soils are in good condition to enabling them to provide good quality food and aid with carbon sequestration.

    Extract of Greater Nottingham Landscape Character Assessment as it relates to Gedling Borough (December 2016) Introduction This document has been prepared in order to present the Landscape Character Assessment (2009) as it relates to Gedling Borough Council in a user friendly format. The document does not update or amend the text from the 2009 document in any way but pulls out those chapters most relevant to Gedling Borough and in particular to provide the Draft Policy Zones relating to the Borough for the users convenience. The DPZs contain detailed descriptions of the landscape character and recommendations for policymakers. Some chapters of the Landscape Character Assessment (2009) are reproduced to provide context and a summary of findings. This has allowed the Landscape Character Assessment (2009) to be presented as a single document which is intended to be easier for users to navigate. Please note that the page numbering corresponds with the original document so is no longer always consecutive.     Thieves & Blidworth Forest Plan 10 year review 2017 - 2027 Thieves & Blidworth FP Thieves & Blidworth Forest Plan Introduction This document is a brief review of the current Forest Design Plans, known as “Thieves and Harlow – Design Plan 44” and “Blidworth – Design Plan 45”. These plans expired in 2012 and were rolled over until 2017. The new plan is an amalgamation of the two current plans and is due to be consulted upon in 2017. It will be known as “Thieves and Blidworth Forest Plan” and will again run for 10 years with a mid-term review at the 5 year point. The purpose of this 10 year review is to answer the four questions set out below, in accordance with OGB 36 – Forest Design Planning. 1. Was the plan implemented properly? Approval for the forest plan was extended for 5 years when plan period expired. This was to take account of amalgamation of Forest Districts and restructuring of the Forestry Commission. Amendment process was also followed in order to fell 15 ha of conifer in the Thieves and Harlow area. Amendment process was followed in Blidworth to fell 2.9 ha of conifer and replant it with a smaller area (1.5 ha) of broadleaves. 2 | Thieves & Blidworth FP | Central Forest District | 17/03/2017 Thieves & Blidworth FP 2.
