The second long-player from Christina Perri, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter responsible for penning the surprise 2010 hit "Jar of Hearts," Head or Heart picks right up where 2011's rushed yet brimming-with-potential Lovestrong left off. More confident than her debut, yet retaining much of its vulnerability, Perri, along with a quartet of producers who include Martin Johnson, Jake Gosling, John Hill, and Butch Walker, explores familiar singer/songwriter themes with a keen pop ear, wrapping big, radio-ready choruses inside folksy verses, effectively bridging the gap between the laid-back folk-pop of a Jewel or Norah Jones and the slick, American Idol montage-ready showboating of a Katy Perry or Sara Bareilles. Case in point, the dreamy "Human" (the album's first single), a slow-building, heavy-hearted power ballad that imbues classic, coffeehouse-approved, confessional singer/songwriter tropes with an arm-waving chorus that's ripped straight out of the Kelly Clarkson playbook. To be more concise, Head or Heart works best when Perri leans harder to the pop side of the ship, as is the case on the soaring second single "Burning Gold," a percussion-heavy, tastefully stylized, Florence + the Machine-inspired empowerment anthem, and the bouncy and heartfelt "Be My Forever," the latter a duet with Ed Sheeran. The fact that almost all of these aforementioned songs are grouped together early on in the proceedings doesn't bode well for the album's back half, which is pleasant enough and consists of mostly piano-based odes to love both gained and lost. They lack much of the spark that propels the record's inaugural moments, but Perri has become such a pro at selling even the slightest of ideas that they never feel phoned in. Album Review: “Head or Heart” by Christina Perri. I’m one of those fans always anticipating the return of Christina Perri, with her addictive indie flow and that versatile and meaningful music. This woman deserves more recognition for her art, and I’m pleased to be able to not only listen to her sophomore album but to write a review as well. No bias. Just appreciation for an authentic sound that needs to be appreciated. I love the gritty feeling that plunges in with the opening guitar strings in Trust . Then once the melodies hook you, Christina leaps in with these skin- tingling vocals. What I enjoy about her sound is not only the subtleness, where the songs aren’t overdone with all these instruments or beats in the background, but I love her clarity and ability to connect on a unique level. Trust is almost like a part two to Jar of Hearts. It certainly plays on that ache and moving on from it, because Christina sings about learning to trust and knowing that it’s hard but she has to move on from it. Burning Gold picks up the tempo and is all about empowerment and knowing when to say goodbye to the things that hurt and won’t uplift you. Be My Forever is a wonderfully sweet and romantic duet with Ed Sheeran. This song is already a fan favorite and is garnering lots of attention for its flowy harmonies, catchy hook, and groovy beat. I also love that happy go lucky vibe depicted throughout the song, and towards the end, you actually hear some laughter. It gives you this warm, fuzzy feeling inside and you’ll keep listening and remembering it even after you close your eyes. Love it. When I heard Human , I was like whoa! Christina Perri is back! I absolutely love this song and cannot get enough of it. This song is always on blast when I put it on and that has been every day since its release. Such a beautiful production with heartfelt and realistic lyrics, not to mention there’s so much energy that derives from every aspect of the song. These are the kind of songs I want to hear playing on the radio. Something of purpose and deep, substantial meaning. While the previous brought us back down a tad to a more mellow vibe, One Night brings it up a notch. This song has so much going for it, including metaphoric terms of what Christina wants to represent in her relationship. Love the backing adlibs and sensual she sounds. It’s a more intimate track I would say. I like it, but need a few more listens to really fall in love with it. Okay, the power returns in I Don’t Wanna Break . Love the rush it sends through my body. The musical arrangement is just phenomenal. This is most definitely in contention to become a single as well. It’s solid and can stand on its own, especially among a generation who loves to dance. The song is about going through everything together; loving, living, breaking together. Great message. Great song. Sea of Lovers is the next ballad on the album. Breathtaking. Invigorating. Thought-provoking. It gives you all the emotional feels you can think of. Christina’s lyrics are as poetic as ever. They tug at the heart. I think this song is a perfect transition from the previous because it’s also about not letting go. Such a sweet love song. For some reason, I keep waiting to hear maybe a downfall or a track that just doesn’t fit on the album and sounds like a filler, but I can’t find that. It’s a totally magnificent production so far, especially when The Words come in. Another ballad, yet even more powerful than the previous. I think the haunting strings are what really captivate me in the beginning. It opens up my heart and mind and makes me want to soak in whatever comes next, which is absolute bliss. Once again, no abundance of instruments or effects, just the singer, her piano, and violin. If the ballads were about love and the depth of it, this one takes that up to a much higher level. It’s a spine-chilling dedication to someone who means the world to her. This is the anthem for couples. In my opinion, it is about honesty and moving forward. Lonely Child springs forth the groovy segment of the album. Love the Latin influence in this alternative rock, pop song. At first, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the track when the beat first came in. Then once the artist brought forth those catchy verses and an addictive hook, I was filled with an uncontrollable rhythm and I couldn’t help but dance.

1 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION This chapter explains the background of the study, problems of the study, objectives of the study, significances of the study, scope and limitation of the study, definition of key terms, and framework of discussion. A. Background of the study The language use by a group of people can show their background in terms of the social and cultural which called as sociolinguistic philology. Sociolinguistics is the study of language as it affects and is affected by social relations. Sociolinguistic encompasses a broad range of concerns. including bilingualism, pidgin and creole languages, and other ways that language use is influenced by contact among people of different language communities (e.g., speakers of German, French, Italian, and Romansh in Switzerland). Sociolinguists also examine different dialects, accents, and levels of diction in light of social distinctions among people. In practice a dialect can usually be identified by the accent of its speakers as well as by distinctive words, usages, idiomatic expressions, and grammatical features. Language is considered to be a system of communication, used by a particular community of speakers, which has literal and figurative meanings. While the literal meaning is the direct reference of words or sentences to objects, the figurative sense is used for giving an imaginative description or a special effect. Therefore, the meaning of individual words in an expression has nothing to do in the comprehension of the whole meaning. Such a meaning characterizes notions like metaphors, similes, proverbs and idioms. 2 Among these, idioms have a great extent use in everyday language, and they are considered as one of the most frequently used means of non-literal language.1 Among them, the idiom has a great used so far in everyday language, and they are considered as one of the most commonly used way of non-literal language.

Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • ABOUT the POET and HIS POETRY William Blake
ABOUT THE POET AND HIS POETRY William Blake William Blake was born in London on November 28, 1757, to James, a hosier, and Catherine Blake. Two of his six siblings died in infancy. From early childhood, Blake spoke of having visions—at four he saw God ―put his head to the window‖; around age nine, while walking dathrough the countryside, he saw a tree filled with angels. Although his parents tried to discourage him from ―lying," they did observe that he was different from his peers and did not force him to attend conventional school. He learned to read and write at home. At age ten, Blake expressed a wish to become a painter, so his parents sent him to drawing school. Two years later, Blake began writing poetry. When he turned fourteen, he apprenticed with an engraver because art school proved too costly. One of Blake‘s assignments as apprentice was to sketch the tombs at Westminster Abbey, exposing him to a variety of Gothic styles from which he would draw inspiration throughout his career. After his seven-year term ended, he studied briefly at the Royal Academy. In 1782, he married an illiterate woman named Catherine Boucher. Blake taught her to read and to write, and also instructed her in draftsmanship. Later, she helped him print the illuminated poetry for which he is remembered today; the couple had no children. In 1784 he set up a printshop with a friend and former fellow apprentice, James Parker, but this venture failed after several years. For the remainder of his life, Blake made a meager living as an engraver and illustrator for books and magazines.

ISSUE #35 MMUSICMAG.COM overall aesthetic. The breakthrough came after she and British musician Kid Harpoon penned “Burning Gold,” a triumphant pop anthem unlike anything on her 2011 debut, Lovestrong. “I remember staying up the entire night, freaking out with my manager,” says Perri, 27. “I put the headphones on and was like, ‘Oh, my God—this is it!’” Later, Perri connected with British producer Jake Gosling and wound up staying in England all summer recording nine songs. “I caught a vibe,” she says. “I found myself in a little family who knew exactly what they wanted to do, and we had the perfect kind of mix going on.” Perri is no stranger to collaboration. On Lovestrong, she teamed with co-writers on eight of the 12 songs, including “Jar of Hearts,” the piano ballad that kick-started her career. The song was featured on a 2010 episode of So You Think You Can Dance, and within days, it shot up the iTunes charts, earning Perri a deal with Atlantic. In 2012, she scored another key placement, landing “A Thousand Years” sai T on the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: u Y Breaking Dawn—Part 1. With success came loads of touring— enough to leave Perri burned out. Since Head or Heart arrives without a reality CHRISTINA PERRI show or teen vampire flick to generate buzz, she’ll once again play road warrior—not that The piano-pop songstress adds a British accent she’s complaining. “It’s so great to build to her latest set something from the ground up,” Perri says.
