FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid National College The FAFSA is now available online. Be sure to complete the FAFSA Fair ASAP! Here are a few tips: Tues. 4/21/20  Create your FSA ID before starting your FAFSA. Students and 8:30 am – 11:30 am parents both need their own FSA IDs. Create your FSA ID 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm online at https://fsaid.ed.gov.  Fill out the FAFSA online at https://fafsa.gov.  Be sure you’re filling out the FAFSA for the correct school SAT Prep Workshop year. Since you’ll be entering college in 2020, you should 4/25-26/20 be filling out the 2020-2021 FAFSA form. 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm  Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible! College Visits College Acceptances & The National Decision Deadline Congratulations to students who have already been accepted to the colleges they have applied to! Remember, do not make a Wed. 1/29 12:40 pm (pd. 6) decision to attend a college or send in a tuition deposit until you complete your FAFSA and receive a financial aid award letter. Linfield College Athletics Students do not need to make a decision until May 1, 2020 and Thurs. 2/6 1:15 pm (pd. 3) should only submit a tuition deposit to ONE SCHOOL. ACT/SAT Tests Northern Arizona University Juniors, you will be taking the ACT at school on February 25, 2020. Tues. 3/24 1:10 pm (pd. 5) You should also register for the SAT at www.sat.org/register. The ACT and SAT are standardized tests that colleges weigh equally University of Colorado and evaluate in the college admissions process when you apply as Colorado Springs a senior. All testing should be finished before the start of your Fri. 4/17 8:45 am (pd. 1) senior year! Freshmen & Sophomores:

Pre-ACT Grade 9 & 10 students may register to take the Pre-ACT, which will be administered on Tuesday, February 25th. The Pre-ACT provides students with the opportunity to practice for the ACT test, as well as a full view of college and career readiness. This test also identifies areas of strength and improvement, to increase chance of success in the Grade 11 ACT. If you would like to take the Pre-ACT, please register in the College & Career Center by Wednesday, January 22nd.

PSAT 9 & PSAT 10 Freshmen and Sophomores are invited to sign up for the PSAT 9 or PSAT 10, which will be held on Friday, March 13th. The cost of the PSAT 9 is $12 and the PSAT 10 is $17. We will be accepting CASH or CHECKS payable to . Please come to the College & Career Center to register for the test by Wednesday, January 22nd.

ACT/SAT Prep Test Prep HI will be having Spring Break SAT Prep classes for 4 days (March 16 – 19) from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, a 2-day SAT Prep Workshop on March 7 & 8 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm and April 25 & 26 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and an ACT Prep Workshop on February 22 & 23 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Intro to College Financial Aid The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling will be hosting an Intro to College Financial Aid event on Wednesday, January 22nd from 5:15 pm to 7:15 pm at Mililani Public Library. This FREE workshop is suitable for high school students and their families. Younger students and their families are also welcome to attend. “Intro to College Financial Aid: Understanding the basics to make informed financial decisions about college” is a community presentation to inform students and their families about financial aid for college.

Hawaii Medical College Open House Hawaii Medical College is having an Open House for all prospective students enrolling in 2020. Learn about the different programs offered at Hawaii Medical College and the career opportunities that await you upon graduation. Reed College – Junior Scholars Program Current juniors are invited to apply for Reed College’s Junior Scholars Program. Every year, Reed seeks a class of intelligent, curious, community-minded students to join their distinctive liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon. Students who apply for the Junior Scholars Program live in the United States and are from a historically underrepresented racial or ethnic background. The Junior Scholars Program welcomes highly qualified students to: stay on campus in a residence hall; visit classes in any of their majors and programs; attend a Reed information session and tour; and engage with faculty, staff, and current Reed students. The Junior Scholars Program is all-expenses- paid, including travel. Students admitted to the program are able to visit between February 18 and March 19. STEM Symposium 4 Girls Registration for the STEM Symposium 4 Girls is now open. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15th at . STEM Symposium (9th to 12th grade) students will have the opportunity to register for three academic sessions where they will hear from and network with women working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields at prominent companies such as The Boeing Company, Genentech, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Waimanalo Health Center, and Queens Medical Center! Honolulu National College Fair Colleges from across the country will be at the Hawaii Convention Center for a national college fair. The college fair will be on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 8:30am-11:30am and 5:00pm-8:00pm. This is a great opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges and universities. Kahua Ho’omau Ola Kahua Ho’omau Ola’s goal is to help students break down barriers and give college a try at Leeward Community College. Academic and Financial support is available for those who qualify. Priority is given to students who: have NO college experience, are Native Hawaiian, demonstrate financial need, have multiple barriers that affect their ability to attend college, and will not be able to attend college without the support of Kahua Ho’omau Ola. The American Legion Department of Hawaii Oratorical Scholarship Contest Students are invited to participate in The American Legion Department of Hawaii Oratorical Scholarship Contest. This contest is open to all high school students 9-12th grade and under the age of 20. The Scholarship Contest is two part: The first speech must be on some aspect of the US Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. This prepared speech must be no less than 8 and no longer than 10 minutes. The second speech, the assignend topic shall be drawn by the contest official in full view of the audience immediately after the last speaker begins delivery of his or her prepared oration and will be made known to the audience and each contestant approximately five (5) minutes prior to the time of the delivery. The assigned topic speech must be no less than 3 and no longer than 5 minutes. The scholarship contest will be held at Ballard Hall in the Veterans Center on February 22nd at 9:00 am. Please see Mrs. Joy Turbeyville if you are interested in participating in the scholarship contest. Mrs. Turbeyville is available in P15 on MWF after school.

National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Student Athlete Scholarship In accordance with National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) purpose to promote, facilitate and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system, this scholarship program will foster and recognize the partnership between the NIAAA and secondary education. The scholarships will recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life. 2020 Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation Scholarship The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation awards a $2,000 scholarship to a senior from each qualifying high school in the State of Hawaii. Students nominated by their schools become eligible for additional Foundation awards of up to $10,000. An electronic application, a checklist of required documents and deadlines for submitting your application to your school counselor can be found online at http://takitanifoundation.org/for-students/. Once the application is complete, print and sign it, obtain the necessary signature from your parent or guardian, and submit the completed application and all required materials to Ms. Himuro by February 3, 2020.

Pauahi Foundation The Pauahi Foundation would like to announce the opening of its 2020-2021 online scholarship application on December 25, 2019. This year, their offerings total more than 100 privately financed funds that are open to the general public with the understanding that they do have a preference policy which states that preference is given to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law. Hawaii Community Foundation Hawaii Community Foundation has over $4.5 million available for scholarships from more than 200 funds to make the road to college easier. Just complete their online application process to be matched to their multiple scholarships. Log onto Scholarship Manager via the Hawaii Community Foundation website and begin your 2019-2020 Common Application online. Visit www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org for more information. The Hawaii Community Foundation 2020-2021 Common Application will open on November 15, 2019 and must be submitted by January 31, 2020 at 4:00 pm, Hawaii Standard Time with all your supporting materials.

University of Hawaii System Scholarships Students planning to attend any of the University of Hawaii System Campuses are encouraged to fill out the Common Scholarship Application available online for the 2020-2021 academic year: https://uhsys.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com. By completing one application, students can be considered for numerous scholarships, including those not based on merit or financial need. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2020.

Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi Scholarship The Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi Program (NHAP) is a need-based scholarship available to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited post-high institution in the United States recognized by (KS). Preference is given to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 31, 2020.

Hawaii Self Storage Student Scholarships Since 2005, Hawaii Self Storage (HSS) has awarded financial scholarships to eligible students to pursue and obtain a college degree. This program is designed to help and support students financially to develop into future leaders in our community. Eligible students must be Hawaii residents graduating from a high school in the State of Hawaii with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Summer Opportunities

Hawaii Undergraduate Initiative (HUI) The Hawaii Undergraduate Initiative (HUI) is a program for incoming freshmen committed to attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Fall 2020. HUI strives to develop college students with a capacity for leadership. Through summer academic coursework, workshops, speakers, co- curricular activities and mentorship opportunities, HUI will prepare incoming UHM freshmen to become confident leaders on campus, in their community, and in their profession. Applicants must be (1) accepted as a Fall 2020 incoming UHM freshman and (2) available to participate in the HUI summer program July 6 – August 14, 2020.
