SMa Centre for Corporate Learning (CCL) and SMa CInstitute of Higher Learning (SMa Institute) held a combined graduation ceremony on 18 Nov 10 at Raffles City Convention Centre, for their respective graduates. WSQ COP Graduation Ceremony Having launched the inaugural WSQ Certified Productivity and Innovation Manager (CPI Manager) Programme in May 2010, SMa CCL is pleased that the first batch of 58 participants has graduated. The Guest-of-Honour, Mr Goh Eng Ghee, Deputy Chief Executive of WDA presented each of the COP graduates with their certificates. As part of the course, the participants completed the WSQ Certified Operations Professional (COP) unit which imparts essential supervisory skills to help them in their roles as Productivity and Innovation champions in their organisations. The WSQ CPI Manager Programme is jointly developed by SMa and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). SMa-ECU Graduation Celebration 2010 SMa Institute marked a milestone in 2010 with one of the largest graduating cohorts since its establishment in 2004. The graduation ceremony witnessed more than 150 students graduating from programmes varying from diploma, bachelor to master degrees. Invited guests included Professor Kerry Cox, Vice-Chancellor and President of ECU, and other senior faculty staff members.     Lynas must go if Pakatan wins, says Wong Tack MalaysiaKini.com March 19, 2013 Himpunan Hijau chairperson Wong Tack is standing by his long-term goal of shutting down the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp), saying Pakatan Rakyat must not renege on its promise to do so should the coalition capture Putrajaya in the coming general election. In clearing the air over his controversial “front door” statement in regards to the rare earths refinery last week, Wong (left) said he regretted the “indirect way” in which he had spoke, as this had led to the misunderstanding. “The reason for the confusion and resulting disappointment was due to my poorly made ‘off-the-cuff’ statement, which gave the impression that I welcome Lynas. “Should Pakatan form the next government of Malaysia, the Temporary Operating License (TOL) for Lynas to operate must be revoked and stop work order must be issued immediately,” he said in a statement issued today. Wong explained that in order to then challenge the termination of the TOL, Lynas must go through the most stringent and transparent detailed environment impact assessment (DEIA) process, of which he was sure there would be little chance of success. “In my professional view, given my experience as an environmental consultant, Lynas will not be able to comply with the many requirements of the DEIA, including stringent public consultation process and especially on the disposal of the processed waste. “To put it simply, once the plant is shut down, there is no chance for it to reopen again” he said. The same, he added, applies to other projects which pose a hazard to the environment as well as to the health and livelihood of the people, such as the gold mining in Raub, Pengerang petrochemical plant and the construction of dams in East Malaysia.

However, most research points to social media being used mainly for broadcasting of information, and there is a need to test whether the interactive features are being used and are influencing election results. With the ability of researchers to download and collect masses of raw data from various social media such as Twitter and Facebook, the research into social media is now becoming more quantitative. With traditional media completely owned and controlled by the government, while the internet is free and uncensored, the use of social media in Malaysia has exploded over the past few years, with a corresponding use of this medium in campaigning, leading to researches attributing this to the rise of a viable opposition. In this paper we study passive interaction using data captured directly from the 2013 Malaysian General Election candidates’ Facebook Pages (FP), and show that the success of a candidate who is active and popular on Facebook rises to 77% when compared to the 38% general success rate of all candidates.

    The APPGM-SDG (All Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia for Sustainable Development Goals): Towards Mainstreaming SDG in Issues and Solutions of Parliamentary Constituencies Danial Mohd Yusof* and Zainal Abidin Sanusi** Abstract This paper looks into the creation of the APPGM (All Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia) in various fields as one of the 14th Malaysian Parliament Reform Agenda. It will explain the origins and rationale of APPG in relation to the need for multilevel and multi-stakeholder engagement over themes and issues with parliament for interaction, documentation, transparency, education and reference. It will then describe the guidelines and rules for the creation of APPGM, and more specifically, the proposal, formation and set up for the APPGM for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) from the meeting minutes of the House Committee of the Dewan Rakyat. This also includes a discussion of the pioneering parliamentary constituencies involved in 2020 and the outcome of research on identified themes and issues mapping, proposed and ongoing project solutions and dynamic partnerships taking place in implementing the program. It will also highlight the favourable decision to continue with the APPGM-SDG and the proposal for the involvement of additional parliamentary constituencies in 2021. The paper will conclude by stating the importance of the APPGM-SDG in advocating and incorporating sustainable development as a practical model for parliamentary constituency issues and solutions.     1,000 at Maria Chin vigil told to get off Dataran Merdeka MalaysiaKini.com Nov 23 rd , 2016 Koh Jun Lin Some 1,000 Bersih supporters standing vigil last night in protest against the arrest of the movement’s leader Maria Chin Abdullah were ordered to vacate their Dataran Merdeka venue. However, the event continued without any further incident until its conclusion at 10.30pm, after organisers agreed to comply with Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) instructions and shifted the crowd to the adjacent Jalan Raja. A notice posted on an electronic screen at Dataran Merdeka said the historic venue was closed by the order of the mayor, from 5pm until 7am on the following day, from Nov 22 until Nov 29. “Any person who remains on Dataran Merdeka or refuses to follow the order can be expelled from Dataran Merdeka,” the notice states. No reason was given for Dataran Merdeka’s closure. The vigil was held to protest Maria’s arrest on Nov 18 , which was on the eve of the Bersih 5 rally. She is being investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code for attempting "activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy", and is also being held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma). A habeas corpus application was filed yesterday to secure her release, and the hearing is slated for case management tomorrow. The vigil is to be held at Dataran Merdeka daily until Maria’s release, and the crowd had swelled from about 650 on its first day on Monday, to some 1,000 last night.
