With the rapid development of Chinese language education, the role of teacher leadership in education reform is becoming more and more prominent. Based on the survey data of 104 teachers in a secondary vocational school in Yuxi City, this study investigated the level of teacher leadership capacity and discussed their promotion strategies. Based on Lambert’s (2003a) theory of teacher leadership capacity, the author developed a research questionnaire that including four structures of teacher leadership capacity, which focus on the vision, reflection and innovation, shared governance, supervision, and response to student achievement. This study adopted the five-likert point scale. Data analysis shows that the average scores of 17 items does not exceed 4.00 points, while the highest and lowest score are from “focus on the vision.” To improve the teacher leadership capacity, the study suggests that leaders should concentrate on the school’s vision as well as establish collaborative culture and atmosphere among teachers. -

Westernisation, Ideology and National Identity in 20Th-Century Chinese Music
Westernisation, Ideology and National Identity in 20th-Century Chinese Music Yiwen Ouyang PhD Thesis Royal Holloway, University of London DECLARATION OF AUTHORSHIP I, Yiwen Ouyang, hereby declare that this thesis and the work presented in it is entirely my own. Where I have consulted the work of others, this is always clearly stated. Signed: Date: 19 May 2012 I To my newly born baby II ABSTRACT The twentieth century saw the spread of Western art music across the world as Western ideology and values acquired increasing dominance in the global order. How did this process occur in China, what complexities does it display and what are its distinctive features? This thesis aims to provide a detailed and coherent understanding of the Westernisation of Chinese music in the 20th century, focusing on the ever-changing relationship between music and social ideology and the rise and evolution of national identity as expressed in music. This thesis views these issues through three crucial stages: the early period of the 20th century which witnessed the transition of Chinese society from an empire to a republic and included China’s early modernisation; the era from the 1930s to 1940s comprising the Japanese intrusion and the rising of the Communist power; and the decades of economic and social reform from 1978 onwards. The thesis intertwines the concrete analysis of particular pieces of music with social context and demonstrates previously overlooked relationships between these stages. It also seeks to illustrate in the context of the appropriation of Western art music how certain concepts acquired new meanings in their translation from the European to the Chinese context, for example modernity, Marxism, colonialism, nationalism, tradition, liberalism, and so on. -
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: 18 September 2018
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: 18 September 2018 Long March Symphony and Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto - A National Day Celebration with Signature Chinese Symphonic Works (28 & 29 Sep) [18 September 2018, Hong Kong] Under the baton of Huang Yi, one of the brightest young conductors in China, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) will celebrate the National Day on 28 & 29 September 2018 with two great Chinese symphonic works - the romantic Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao featuring violinist Wang Zhijong, and the heroic Long March Symphony by Ding Shande, the former mentor of Chen and He - in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. “The Long March Symphony is a piece representing the epoch of China.” - Yu Long The Long March Symphony by the legendary Chinese composer Ding Shande is one of his best known orchestral compositions. Taking the gallant story of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army marching over a distance of 25,000 miles, the Symphony is a deeply moving powerful piece. Under the baton of Huang Yi, the HK Phil ends the concert by revisiting this historic event. The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto is Chen Gang and He Zhanhao’s recreation of the romantic love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. The Butterfly Lovers was hailed at its premiere as “a breakthrough in China’s symphonic music”. The piece incorporates Chinese elements and melodic phrases using western instrumentation. After 60 years since its premiere, “The Tchaikovsky Concerto of the East” will showcase the elegance of Chinese symphonic music through the sensitive representation of the sorrows of Zhu Yingtai. -

Ever since the region has been renamed, some visitors have started to express that Shangri-La County has transformed into a theme park and has lost its authenticity. The current essay explored, by using Bryman’s (2004) theory of Disneyization as a framework, whether it can be said that the name change into Shangri-La has changed the region into a theme park. The resources of this research were scholarly literature, travel blogs and TripAdvisor reviews about Shangri-La. Of the four principles mentioned in Disneyization, that all describe a trend common to a theme park, the principles of theming, hybrid consumption and merchandising were all found to be take place in the Shangri-La region.
