First Reading: The Pastor’s Keyboard—Msgr. Richard Huneger Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31 Albert Einstein is one of the most famous and recognizable people in the world, the 20th- Responsorial: century who loved to think about the feelings he experienced when riding in elevators. Psalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5 They were a gateway to his famous theories of Special and General Relativity. He died in Second Reading: 1955, having spent his final years at Princeton, still scribbling mathematical formulae on loose 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 sheets of paper the day before he passed away. He left his literary estate and personal papers Gospel: to Hebrew University in Jerusalem, which he helped to found. Matthew 25:14-30 “Remain in me as I remain in The following quotation by Einstein recently made international news: "A calm and modest you, says the Lord. life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness.” Whoever remains in me bears Mercator Net News reports: "It’s a wise observation, although it would not take a genius to much fruit.” think it. But a genius wrote it down on a sheet of hotel notepaper in 1922 and now it has sold at auction for $1.7 million. The writer was Albert Einstein and he gave the note to the bellboy attending him at The Imperial Tokyo Hotel because he had no cash to give him a tip. While in There will be only one Mass on Japan the famous scientist had learned that he was to be awarded the Nobel Prize in physics, THANKSGIVING DAY and he told the bellboy that, because of his fame, the handwritten note would be worth more at 9:00 a.m. to him than a regular tip. It certainly has been worth a lot to somebody this week, though what the Japanese lad got for it – and another note bearing the adage “Where there’s a will there’s a Please join us for the way” – is information perhaps lost in the mists of time. Let’s hope he profited from the advice Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner as well, even though the convulsions of war lay ahead. It is nice to think that the mighty Ein- in the stein used his wits to devise a “tip” with the potential to enrich the lowly hotel worker both Parish Center from morally and materially, not just signing his name but giving him something to think about. No 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. doubt it made Einstein happy as well. To paraphrase another wise man, “It makes one happier to give than to receive.” "

The School and Church Business November 23 is, this year, Thanksgiving Day. Mass will be at 9:00am (rather than the Offices will be closed on usual 7:05 and 12:05). That doesn't mean we have anything the less to be grateful for, or that Thanksgiving Day and on Friday our secular celebration of this day as "Thanksgiving Day" means we are any the less thankful November 24th. every day of the year, every moment of our lives. From God comes the miracle of the uni- verse, its history, our existence, and the hope held out for us as to its purpose, a sheer gift (none of us created himself, even though we speak of the "self-made man" occasionally): namely, to know, love, and serve God in this life, and be happy with him forever in the next. From the gift of Revelation, through Christ and the Church in its long tradition of fits and starts, and successes and setbacks, as the Gospel dawns as light in the profound darkness in which we otherwise walk. Our Thanksgiving Day Dinner led by Kathleen Adamson and scores of volunteers is a little foretaste of the goodness that will make up Heaven.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI used to say (though not the first to do so) that one who does not believe in the "Logos" (the "Word" of God as the ultimate principle of the reasonableness of reality) will easily believe in anything, easy prey for all sorts of half-baked ideas, and ulti- mately for violence and power-grabbing as the only "meaningful" thing in the midst of point- November 18 & 19 less existence. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A) is the process for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation - Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. The parish community is encouraged to invite those interested to explore this process, and also to support them in prayer as they continue in this spiritual journey with Jesus Christ and His Church. Anyone interested in becoming Catholic may attend these meetings during the year to learn more information about the RCIA process and the Catholic faith. Contact the parish office for further information. Shepherds Field Olive Wood Handcraft—On November 25-26 a group from the Holy Land ( & Jerusalem) will be selling religious articles after masses to support the Catholic Christian minorities in Bethlehem. As a tradition, many of the Catholic families in the Holy Land work in small workshops to pro- duce religious articles from olive wood. These articles represent the Christian art of the Holy Land. In the past, they used to sell their artwork to pilgrims who visit the Holy Land. However, these days they are fac- ing an economic hardship as very few tourists visit the Holy Land due to security issues. Many of the Catholic families immigrated and left the Holy Land. The percentage of Christians in the Holy Land has dropped to less than 2%. Sales will be used to help and support the Catholics in the Holy Land and to encourage them not to immigrate.
