This area had a re-awakening as an art hub at the beginning of the 2000s and now hosts many art galleres including Francesca Minini (ID G17 Page 86), Gariboldi (ID G24 Page 88), Massimo de Carlo (ID G34 Page 91), and Prometeogallery (ID G51 Page 95). The area also becomes a nucleus for design during the Salone del Mobile. Whilst Tortona is the historic area in town where design is concerned, Ventura can now also be considered a hub for both design and contemporary art.

Porta Romana is located to the Southeast of the centre and is a quiet residential area of the city. Close to Porta Romana, one finds Federico Luger (ID G16 Page 86), Galleria Pack (ID G23 Page 88) and Francesco Pantaleone (ID G18 Page 86). Agata Polizzi: The last time we met we were in Milan having breakfast in a “dopolavoro” (working men’s club) in a former factory near your studio, everything had remained relatively authentic and intact consid- ering the time past. Not far from there, in Milan, things are progressing at a very different speed and moving in a different direction, we talked a lot about your city and how strong your bond is to it. What remains of the Milan of the Nineties? The decade in which a lot happened to you. How much has this city changed?

Liliana Moro: Until a few decades ago the area of was a peripheral and working class area of Milan, a few kilometres from Officine Breda, Pirelli and Falck, a place where people stopped to meet one another, to play “bocce” (bowls) after work, in places just like the one where we had breakfast. Only now tables have replaced the garden, but the atmosphere has remained the same, a working class neighbourhood where at the end of the day they Liliana Moro © Photo by Delfino Sisto Legnani would meet for a glass of wine or a coffee in an all embracing atmosphere.
