Republican Party of Iowa First in the Nation Internship Program

“Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.” Ayn Rand

Why Intern at the Republican Party of Iowa? An RPI internship gives undergraduate students an opportunity to both witness and participate in the political process in Iowa. Given Iowa’s status as the First in the Nation caucus state, an RPI internship means undergrads have an opportunity to not only participate in the state political process, but also the national political process. RPI interns will become familiar with political operatives in Iowa and will work to build the Republican Party as it strives to reach for principled, conservative government in Des Moines and Washington, D.C.

When are Internships Available? The Republican Party of Iowa offers full- and part-time internships during the Fall and Spring semesters. RPI also offers internships during the summer. RPI is willing to work with undergrads to accommodate their schedules, but certain events will require special attention and effort from RPI interns

What about Course Credit? Is there Compensation? RPI can work with your school if it offers course credit for internships. Unfortunately, RPI internships are not monetarily compensated.

What do interns do? RPI is a small organization that does big things. Therefore, all interns are expected to be willing and able to assist staff with both daily tasks and big events. Interns should anticipate handling everything from media credentialing to basic office management. During the summer of 2012, interns will be integral to organizing the convention process leading to the Republican National Convention. They will also be involved with building a grassroots voter identification and turnout program for the 2012 campaign cycle.

RPI interns are assigned to either the Communications or Political Departments. Communications interns will aide RPI’s Communications Director with daily tasks and will also have special opportunities to work with the press at major political events.

Political interns will assist the Political Department, which will be managing the GOP conventions and working to build a grassroots network for the 2012 campaign season. Political interns will work with both the grassroots and managing political operatives to ensure that RPI’s political operation runs smoothly.
