    VIRUDHUNAGAR DISTRICT Virudhunagar district has no access to sea as it is covered by land on all the sides. The fertility of the land is low in Virudhunagar district, so crops like cotton, pulses, oilseeds and millets are mainly grown in the district. It is rich in minerals like limestone, sand, clay, gypsum and granite. Tourists from various places come to visit Bhuminathaswamy Temple, Ramana Maharishi Ashram, Kamaraj's House, Andal, Vadabadrasayi koi, Shenbagathope Grizelled Squirrel Sanctuary, Pallimadam, Arul Migu Thirumeni Nadha Swamy Temple, Aruppukkottai Town, Tiruthangal, Vembakottai, Pilavakkal Dam, Ayyanar falls, Mariamman Koil situated in the district of Virudhunagar. To meet RPO targets, for the forthcoming two financial years, and as per VISION 2023 programme, TANGEDCO has proposed to procure 1500 MW of solar power through bidding route to meet its RPO requirement. In order to facilitate developers to establish Solar Power Plants of capacity 1 MW and above and also to have a competitive rate to the TANGEDCO, TANGEDCO proposes to facilitate the investors by procuring the energy generated from these plants through a long term Energy Purchase Agreement up to a capacity of 500 MWac, for a total capacity of 1500 MW considering the tariff of Rs.4.00 as upper limit.

    Chapter 13 Ramana Maharshi and Self-enquiry In the landscape of twentieth century Indian philosophy, Ramana Maharshi is often viewed as the spiritual counterpart of Mahatma Gandhi. People spoke about ‘the Maharshi and the Mahatma’ as the two forces behind the spiritual upliftment of the nation. The term “Maharshi” means “Great Sage” and indeed he was. Speaking little, Ramana Maharshi radiated a spiritual calmness which seemed to exend far and wide. He made no speeches, wrote no books, nor was he in any way a “guru” or spiritual teacher. But by his life, he seemed to demonstrate the reality of what we may call spiritual enlight- enment, whatever that may be. The existential question “who am I?” (in Tamil, nan¯ yar¯ ) embodies the essential teaching of Sri Ramana Maharshi. As with all existential ques- tions, there is of course, no simple answer. The question is the door towards a higher level of understanding. In the tradition of Advaita Vedanta,¯ the method of vichara or inquiry has often been delineated as the foundational method of discovery. Ramana Maharshi taught that our misery and suffer- ing is due to the fact that we do not know who we are. We have identified ourselves with this physical body and psycho-physical mind embodied by the ego personality. If we can transcend this limited self, we arrive at the Universal Self and thus perceive the unity of all existence. Venkataraman Aiyar (the original name of Ramana Maharshi) was born on December 30, 1879 in Madurai located in the province of Tamil Nadu, In- dia into what we may call a middle class Brahmin family.

    City Corporate cum Business Plan for Aruppukkottai Final Report Virudhunagar District, Tamil Nadu - 1 - 1 PROJECT OVERVIEW 1.1 ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND The World Bank has been a partner in urban reform program of Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) with engagement through Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project (TNUDP) - TNUDP-I, TNUDP-II and TNUDP-III (in progress). Towards taking forward the urban reform agenda, the GoTN is now implementing the TNUDP-III with focus on furthering the reforms initiated under TNUDP-II. The Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited (TNUIFSL), as a financial intermediary, intends to assist the Commissioner of Municipal Administration (CMA) in strengthening and improving the financial position of its Municipalities for effective capital investment management and urban service delivery. These towns possess a good potential for implementation of such financial reforms for which it is essential to formulate a City Corporate Cum Business Plan. The CMA has started the process of capacity building in Municipalities through this process to enhance the vision of the ULBs in growth of their towns. The TNUIFSL has appointed M/s. Community Consulting India Private Limited (CCI) to prepare City Corporate Cum Business Plan (CCBP) for Aruppukkottai Municipality. 1.1.1 CITY CORPORATE PLAN A City Corporate Plan (CCP) is the ULB’s corporate strategy that presents both a vision of a desired future perspective for the city and the ULB’s organization, and mission statements on how the ULB, together with other stakeholders, intends to work towards achieving their long- term vision in the next ten years.
