In the fall of 2007, we realized our highest enrollment in over a decade. The new Art and Science Center opened in September 2007 with a wonderful community celebration and ribbon-cutting. Students are taking full advantage of our “high-tech, high-touch” approach to teaching and learning. At NCCC, “the small college that does great things,” you are a name and not a number. I like to describe the faculty and staff at NCCC as “The A Team.” We are committed to keeping our college accessible, affordable and accountable. Access: We are founded on a mission that embraces open-entry. We will take you from where you are and help you reach your goal. Affordable: We are the best buy in public higher education in the state today. Ac- countable: We are committed to the success of our students and to serving our community. In an editorial entitled the “Little College That Could,” The Litchfield County Times described NCCC as “an over-achiev- ing local resource that propels area students on a higher education arc that leads them to success---without leaving home, without tremendous costs and without sacrificing access to great teachers, cutting-edge technology, a wonderful campus and the opportunity to go on to accomplish anything.” Whether you are taking a continuing education course in motorcycle safety or a college credit calculus course, “The A Team” looks forward to accompanying you on your educational journey. Come learn with us! Sincerely, Barbara Douglass, Ph.D. President www.nwcc.commnet.edu 1 2008-2010 COLLEGE CATALOG TABLE OF CONTENTS President’s Message ............................................................ 1 Academic Calendar ........................................................ 3, 4 The College ........................................................................ 5 Admissions ......................................................................... 7 Financial Information ....................................................... 13 Financial Aid .................................................................... 16 Scholarships ..................................................................... 23 Academics ........................................................................ 27 College Life ...................................................................... 36 Continuing Education ...................................................... 44 Policies ............................................................................. 45 Programs .......................................................................... 53 Degrees ............................................................................ 59 Certificates ....................................................................... 89 Special Transfer Programs .............................................. 101 NORTHWESTERN Courses .......................................................................... 112 CONNECTICUT COMMUNITY COLLEGE Northwestern’s People .................................................... 150 Park Place East Index .............................................................................. 161 Winsted, Connecticut 06098 www.nwcc.commnet.edu Directions/Campus Map ................................................ 163 2 www.nwcc.commnet.edu 2008-2009 ACADEMIC CALENDAR Academic Calendar is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Community-Technical Colleges.
