2 A MESSAGE FROM SARAH FRANCO OUR CEO

To my JAFCO family, In true JAFCO style, even a global pandemic could not deter our incredible donors from their dedication to our children and families. Working together with love this past year, we were able to serve 3,080 children in all of our lifesaving programs which are all fully open and operating live and in-person. We are grateful to our amazing frontline professional staff and we did not suffer a single pandemic-related program closing or staff layoff. In effect, the only thing that truly changed at JAFCO during this challenging year, is our increased level of gratitude for the health and safety of our extended JAFCO family which includes our children, our families, our volunteers and our donors. We have realized more than ever before, that we are truly better together. There were precious babies and children who moved from dangerous conditions to their loving foster and adoptive families. We celebrated high school graduations of the children living at the Children’s Village, as well as a momentous UF graduation and a Wharton MBA graduation for one of our esteemed alumni who is now a member of our JAFCO Children’s Foundation Board of Trustees and our Alumni Circle a group to keep our alumni in contact, helping their peers who might be struggling, because we are better together. At the Children’s Village, we quickly transitioned to home schooling for over two dozen children ranging from kindergarten to college, and we had more children who made honor roll than ever before! To strengthen their immunity the children grew their own organic vegetables and participated in daily workout routines in addition to wellness and mindfulness activities such as meditation and drumming. Our weekly Shabbat dinners continued to provide spiritual support to the children and our 2020 Passover table for 40 children was likely the largest live seder that took place in the world. This past Jewish New Year while all shuls remained closed due to COVID-19, our (Noni and Alan Aufzien) Children’s Sanctuary was open allowing our children to start the year off with hope as they listened to the blast of the shofar and participated in our traditional JAFCO-created Torah-passing ceremony where each child has their own moment to hold and kiss the Torah before carefully passing it on to a friend – all with a huge smile on their faces. Every year during this special ceremony, there are tears of joy as I am reminded that as a Jewish community, we are better together. Our JAFCO clinical social work staff both in Florida and Pennsylvania never stopped supporting and reaching out to keep families strong and together. Our social workers risked their own health on the frontline, sending our communities a clear message that we are better together. When 100% of summer camps closed for the summer, we were concerned about how we could ensure safety from the pandemic but we also worried about how our Ability Center families would manage with three more months at home with their children without a break. In one moment, the right thing to do became abundantly clear after our community suffered the tragic drowning of Alejandro Ripley, a 9-year old child with autism, by his own mother who was so stressed. Hearing this JAFCO responded immediately and the next day we were one of the only open on-site summer camp and respite programs in the entire South Florida community, because working alongside our families, we are always better together. At Eagles’ Haven we held a three year commemoration of the 2/14 MSD school shooting tragedy with a full-day in-person outdoor wellness event. With the release of 17 beautiful doves, our community stood together as one, with tears in their eyes and love in their hearts for those we lost and for the families who are grieving each and every day. Especially during difficult times, we are better together. JAFCO is fully open and will transition to in-person live fundraising events and tours starting in the summer. The need for JAFCO and our lifesaving mission became crystal clear during the pandemic and we thank all of you for the love and support you have shown us this past year. We could not have done it alone, and we emerge from this experience stronger Alone we can and certain that we are better together. do so little; together we can do so much. “I’ve known families through the years who have adopted children through JAFCO. We have also watched how JAFCO has expanded beyond their initial foster care and adoption mission to include family preservation as well as children with developmental disabilities and now addresses the trauma that comes with mass shootings at their Eagles’ Haven site. We are so proud that our community has supported this organization that truly responds to the needs of families in a way that other agencies cannot.” — Rabbi Amy Rader Boca Raton, FL 5 BETTER TOGETHER WE HAVE TOUCHED THE LIVES OF MORE THAN 15,000 CHILDREN since our inception in 1992

The JAFCO Senior Caregiver and Kinship Care programs were created due to the nearly 3 million children in the United States who are being raised by grandparents and who are much more likely to have experienced traumatic events that will influence their development. For example, research has found that children in grandparent-led households are six times more likely to have had a parent or guardian serve time in jail, and four times more likely to have lived with someone who has a drug or alcohol problem or observed physical violence between parents or adults, and twice as common living with someone who was mentally ill, suicidal or severely depressed. Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, comedians Carol Burnett and Jamie Foxx, and musicians Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson were all raised by their grandparents. By supporting the grandparents, these children can grow up to lead a happy and successful life, like Leah who is being raised by her grandmother Elaine.

Elaine, a dedicated grandmother, was desperate for help when she came to JAFCO in need of support. It felt like her entire family was falling apart as she struggled at the age of 78 to become a full-time single parent to her 8-year-old granddaughter Leah. Leah’s mother had suffered from serious substance abuse and mental health struggles since she was a teenager despite dozens of treatment centers and attempts to help her. Elaine felt ashamed to come to ask for help but things were so out of control, she wasn’t sure how she would get through even one more day with her daughter’s mental illness and substance abuse putting the family at risk. There were strangers coming to the home looking for her daughter and threatening to harm the entire family if they were not paid the money she owed them. Elaine feared for her life as she tried to protect her precious granddaughter. It was just the two of them as Elaine’s husband had just passed away the previous year. On the same day that Elaine called for help, JAFCO stepped in immediately. It was deemed necessary that the mother could no longer safely come to the home and JAFCO ensured that a legal restraining order was put in place by the courts. However supervised visitation was ordered and JAFCO clinicians provided supervised visitation between Leah and her mother for three years. Leah remained in her grandmother’s care where she received structure and consistency along with every possible support from JAFCO to ensure her needs were met. During this time, the mother’s mental health and substance abuse became increasingly concerning and visitations were eventually suspended. Ultimately the mother sadly overdosed and died. Leah was devastated, as she loved her mother regardless of what she had she experienced in her care. After helping grandma with the funeral and shiva, JAFCO immediately connected Leah to grief counseling, equine therapy and continued to check in nearly every day. Leah is now happy and doing well. She is in the gifted program at school, loves to dance and do karate. JAFCO sends Leah to overnight camp to give grandma a long two month break and the two of them are doing great. She also gets help from extended family whom JAFCO contacted in order to provide much needed support to this incredible duo. We were so happy to be there to help when everything fell apart and it has been our honor to nurture the incredible bond they share. We received this beautiful letter of gratitude... To my JAFCO family, I’m living and working in Tallahassee for the FDEM and I must say, I picked a fairly relevant major in college. During the first 6 months I’ve been working, I was initially deployed after Hurricane Sally devastated part of Panama City. Then ironically, they deployed me to help with vaccinations in Broward County where I grew up. The best part of that assignment was that I got to go to JAFCO nearly every day where they had lunch waiting for me! It felt so good to finally be able to give back to JAFCO, for all you have done for me and my siblings, by getting some of the donors and staff hooked up with a vaccine while I was working at one of the parks that week. I genuinely just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. This has been such a surreal journey and you all have gone so above and beyond anything that I ever could have imagined. I am so grateful for you and don't know how to thank all of you enough for the continuous support and most importantly love. I would not be here without all of you and I will never forget that. I love you guys! Love, Austin

Eagles’ Haven continues to bring light to our community and even during the pandemic we did not miss a beat. After six years of providing life-changing support services and experiencing rapid growth due to significant need for our programming, JAFCO Northeast Communities has a new name. FamilyMatters more clearly captures the high quality personalized nature of the support provided through our programs. In 2014 JAFCO expanded to provide services to children and families facing the impact of trauma and challenges in Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and we now serve over 140 children and families in our local communities every year. Our team quickly assisted the family with applying for rental assistance programs through the City of Philadelphia and connected them with utility assistance programs. The family was approved by the area electric/gas company to pay off past due bills in manageable installments and was selected to receive $7,500 in rental assistance, allowing them to stay on track with their current rent payment plan. Our JAFCO FamilyMatters office is looking forward to partnering with the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia under your incredible leadership in building community, making us all better together.

BETTER TOGETHER LEGISLATIVE ADVOCATES

The JAFCO Children’s Ability Center legislative appropriation effort was led again with the pro-bono advocacy of former Fl. St. Senator Ellyn Setnor Bogdanoff (Lq), with the law firm of Becker & Poliakoff. Our bill was co-sponsored once again by Fl. St. Representative Michael Gottlieb (Cq) along with new Fl. St. Senator Tina Polsky (Rq) to fund respite services, life skills training and parent education at the JAFCO Children’s Ability Center. Their combined heroic efforts resulted in an appropriation of $850,000 through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). JAFCO extends our gratitude to APD Director Dr. Barbara Palmer and her staff for the life-saving work of her agency on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities. Thank you, with your support we are better together. 27 BETTER TOGETHER WITH THE HELP OF MY GODPARENTS

There is a moment in every childhood, where the door opens, and the future Chana's comes in. Over the past 28 years, 1,051 JAFCO Godparents opened that door to letter of 15,143 children whose hearts have been gently placed in our hands. gratitude From a young age I can remember having huge aspirations of what I wanted my future to hold. From wanting to become a doctor or ballerina, my dreams were endless. Unfortunately, from a young age I also had to go through quite a few nightmares that no one should have to go through. My parents divorced when I was about nine years old which put a large toll on my whole family and started a huge chain of unfortunate events. From this point, both of my parents struggled to keep a stable job and the fear of whether there would be running water in my house or a hot dinner seemed to become more and more frequent. My mother’s mental health began to decline as well. By the time I was twelve I had witnessed my mother having three psychotic breaks followed by hospital stays. Each time she came back she seemed less and less like the mother I remembered, and it became harder and harder for her to take care of me and my sisters. During times where my mother was in the hospital or very unstable my sisters and I would have to stay with different neighbors, relatives, and friends’ houses as my father was unable to house all of us. As you can imagine, school was not always a top priority in these situations. I would go multiple days without attending school. And on the days that I did attend school the thought of not knowing where I would be sleeping each night would steal my focus. I began to fall behind barely being able to graduate middle school. This pattern continued throughout my first two years of high school. At the end of my Sophomore year, I had attended less than 3 months of high school and did not obtain a single high school credit toward my diploma. I had so many dreams that seemed to be slipping from my grasp. Around 2 and a half years ago on June 6th of 2018, I was 16 years old and found myself going through one of the biggest changes of my life. My sisters and I came here to JAFCO. Although I was scared out of my mind the first time pulling through that gate, there was also a huge sense of relief. I knew that I was finally safe and would not have to worry about me and my sisters’ basic needs being met. We started receiving nonstop support from so many amazing people right away to help me on my journey and give me opportunities I would never have otherwise. As school came along the decision was made that I would work towards getting my GED followed by enrolling in community college. I finally had something to work towards and the right environment to do it in. In just a few short weeks I obtained my GED and enrolled in my first semester at Broward College at the age of sixteen. Going from being two years behind in high school to starting college at the age of sixteen completely changed my goals and mindset. Tasks that I used to deem as impossible are now tasks I cannot wait to complete. If someone told me three years ago I would have my AA at 18, with a 4.0 GPA, and be moving to Gainesville and starting my junior year at my dream school, the University of Florida… I would not have believed them! But this just goes to show that with the right mindset and the right environment nothing is impossible I am so grateful to JAFCO and to the Peskin Family Foundation for paying for my education. Education is not something I take for granted; I know it is a power that can take me far in life no matter what path I choose to take. I also want to say a huge thank you to every staff and child at the village, whether you were my inspiration, my admiration, or my motivation. Each of you has played a role in my growth this past year and I am so grateful. Finally, a huge thank you to Aunt Sarah and Aunt Wendy for creating this amazing environment for so many kids. Your love and support truly makes me feel like nothing is impossible. Chana. Children like Chana u inspired Eileen Garlick’s q love for JAFCO. To be asked to be the Godparent for a child is one of the greatest honors in life. JAFCO Godparents spiritually “adopt” abused and neglected children to ensure that they have everything they need. As a Godparent you welcome these children to the beauty of the world and to Judaism. The JAFCO Godparent Circle is a group that has been created to ensure that each JAFCO child will enjoy a wonderful life filled with every opportunity that our own children have. JAFCO Godparents make a commitment to support the children of JAFCO with a gift of $1,800 a year, for ten years. Two special 14k gold pins have been created featuring the JAFCO logo which symbolizes our mission — a child swinging joyously on the tree of life. As a Godparent, you will receive one of these pins that we hope you will treasure as an heirloom for years to come. Our Recommitted Godparents commit to making a second pledge of a minimum of $18,000 payable in one payment or over the next ten years. They receive a specially commissioned candle holder created exclusively for JAFCO by artist Yaacov Heller. Our Godparents for Life donors pledge to donate $1,800 a year as long as they are alive and as long as they are able. They receive two Yaacov Heller candle holders as a gift from the children. Becoming a Godparent is about saving the lives of an entire generation of children who need your protection. You can become a Godparent at any time of the year and it would be our honor to pin you in a special ceremony at one of our upcoming JAFCO events. Your name will join our wall of honor at the JAFCO Jewish Children’s Village.

To ensure the financial security and future of the JAFCO Children’s Ability Center, a special and very meaningful giving circle has been created — the Circle of Hope which is a pledge of $1,800 for 10 years ($18,000). This group of special individuals will receive a beautiful specially commissioned 14K gold pin featuring the JAFCO Tree of Life lovingly encircling a parent joyfully pushing a child on a swing. Our Recommitted Circle of Hope donors making a 2nd pledge of a minimum of $18,000 over the next 10 years receive one specially commissioned candle holder exclusively for JAFCO by artist Yaacov Heller. Our Circle 200 of Hope for Life members pledge $1,800 a year for as long as they can, receive two specially CIRCLE Yaacov Heller candle holders. These critical funds will allow us to provide respite care, child enrichment & therapy for the children as well as support services including parent support groups, counseling, OF HOPE sibling workshops, parent training, and 24-hour crisis support to hundreds of families in the tri-county area who are raising a child with a developmental disability. The Kaminoffs… Forever a Part of the Children’s Lives

“Kim and I always believed that the blessing of abundance is meaningless unless it is used in part to help make life better for others,” says Leslie Kaminoff. Kimberly and Leslie have been ardent and generous supporters of JAFCO since 2001 beginning with their commitment as members of the JAFCO South Palm Beach Chapter, where they hosted and organized several events in their home. Kim and Leslie are members of the JAFCO Godparent Circle and Silver Heart Society, they made a generous capital gift to the Children’s Ability Center and are members of the Founders Circle. In 2010, Kim and Leslie were the recipients of the Jacobs Ladder Award for Child Advocacy and Kim was President of the South Palm Beach Chapter of JAFCO from 2012–2014. She and Leslie also co-chaired the Gala in 2016, and Kim is the Chanukah gift fairy, chairing the Palm Beach Chanukah Wish List Drive every year. If that weren’t enough, the couple has treated the children living at the JAFCO Village to a dream day aboard their boat, and Kim loves dropping by to take the girls who live at the Village out for lunch and a spa/salon day – just because! Kim and Leslie made a life-changing gift of $1 million to JAFCO in memory of Leslie’s parents Esther and Leo Kaminoff, allowing them to live on forever at the Children’s Village, bringing safety and love to the kids. It is an honor to walk into The Kaminoff Children’s Center every morning, knowing that Esther and Leo are dancing above us in heaven.

Myra & Barry Cohen dedicate the Jonathan E. Cohen Wellness Center “We feel so fortunate and have a rich and blessed life. We feel we should share that and pay it forward,” says Barry Cohen. The Cohens first heard about JAFCO fourteen years ago and took a tour of the Children’s Village, which moved them tremendously. They immediately became members of the Godparent Circle and a few years later the Circle of Hope. They created a Cultural Arts Endowment to allow the children to experience the joy of the arts and they made a capital gift for the Ability Center naming the Parent Café. Their beloved son Jonathan tragically passed away in 2017, and to honor his memory Myra and Barry created a Therapy and Wellness Endowment to provide substance abuse prevention, therapy and wellness programs at JAFCO, and just this year made a beautiful capital gift, naming a Group Home at the Children’s Village The Jonathan E. Cohen Wellness Center. Jonathan’s memory is a blessing to the JAFCO family and we will continue to honor his legacy every day. Myra was born and raised in Miami, working in office administration for over 20 years. Barry hails from Newton Massachusetts, before starting his career with Gimbel Brothers in New York. In 1979 he moved his family to Broward County and started his own company, a consumer electronics wholesale distributorship, until retiring in 2004. Myra and Barry have been married for 22 years. They have three sons, Andrew and his wife Amelia, Daniel and his wife Lauren, and Jonathan, of blessed memory, four precious grandchildren, and their golden retriever.

Eleanor Schick was introduced to JAFCO The Schick Family Honors the Memory of Harry L. Schick in 2019 when she visited the Children’s Village and the Children’s Ability Center with her granddaughter Erica Fine. After seeing JAFCO and learning about JAFCO’s mission, the family became committed to helping our children and families. Eleanor wanted to make a special gift in memory of her beloved husband Harry who had passed away earlier that year. Harry was a partner and private money manager at First Manhattan Company. As an outstanding student and scholar of life, he guest lectured for many years at both Yale and Columbia Universities. Harry taught himself to read and speak fluent French, was quite the chess and bridge player, appreciated art and classical music, donated to numerous charities and traveled extensively with his beautiful wife Eleanor who lovingly extended their generosity to JAFCO with a beautiful capital gift to name The Eleanor & Harry L. Schick Reception Lobby. The Lobby is filled each day with children with developmental disabilities and their families and is the first point of entry for all who come to the Ability Center. Four generations of the Schick family celebrated the Eleanor & Harry L. Schick Reception Lobby at the Grand Opening of the Illuminate Ballroom: Ken Feldman, Pamela Feldman, Melissa Bonaros, Eleanor Schick, Erica Fine and Eleanor’s adorable great grandchildren. 37 BETTER TOGETHER NAMED ENDOWMENTS & SPECIAL FUNDS

To secure the future of JAFCO, Endowments and Special Purpose Funds were created. All endowments are restricted to the purpose for which they were created and only the earned interest is used, allowing the endowment and your family name in perpetuity to continue saving the lives of children. Larry Robinson, Secretary, JAFCO Children’s Foundation Larry Robinson lives by the words “We all have an obligation to give back as much as we can. Sometimes it’s money, sometimes it’s time, but everyone can do something.” In that spirit Larry has been involved with JAFCO ever since his wife Brenda came home after attending her first card party at Admirals Cove in 2014 and told him about the special connection she immediately felt to JAFCO. They have been “all in,” as Larry likes to say, ever since. Larry and Brenda are members of the Founder’s Circle, Godparent Circle, Circle of Hope and Capital Donors. Larry is from Bronx, New York and was in the computer consulting industry for 40 years until he retired in 1999. He now lives full time in Palm Beach Gardens where, in addition to serving on the JAFCO Foundation Board, enjoys golf and loves to play poker. Now married for 55 years, Larry and Brenda met on a blind date and raised their beautiful family in Westchester, NY and New Jersey. They are the proud parents of Mandy (Justin) and Eric and have 2 precious grandchildren.

Dorinne Gerstin, Secretary, JAFCO Children’s Village Dorinne Gerstin’s connection to JAFCO runs deep and began 22 years ago. After attending an event in someone’s home in Boca Raton, and in disbelief that children in our community were suffering from abuse or neglect, she decided to get involved and spread awareness about JAFCO and its mission to care for the most vulnerable children who need our help. Dorinne called everyone she knew sharing her passion for JAFCO, which of course no one could resist, and grew community support to create what’s now known as the South Palm Beach Chapter. She served as president for 8 years, continually growing the Chapter and running dozens of events and later joining the JAFCO Board of Trustees. Dorinne was married to Jeffrey, her high school sweetheart and love of her life, for 53 years. After a courageous battle with cancer Jeffrey passed away in 2018. Together they raised a beautiful and devoted family, and Dorinne’s biggest joy is spending time with their 4 children Seth (Lainie), Randi (David), Joshua (Melissa) and Ari (Erica), and 9 beautiful grandchildren.

Marjorie Plough, Secretary, JAFCO Children’s Ability Center Margie Plough strongly believes that an important part of her life revolves the mitzvah of supporting individuals and families so they can build productive and meaningful lives. Margie was introduced to JAFCO by Children’s Foundation Chairman Stuart and Gayle (of blessed memory) Rader and immediately felt connected to JAFCO’S lifesaving mission. Margie and Maurice are $1million members of the JAFCO Founder’s Circle, they are members of the Silver Heart Society, Legacy Circle, Godparents and members of the Circle of Hope and Capital Donors. “There isn’t any part of JAFCO that Margie and Maurice do not support”, says JAFCO Founder Ron Simon. “They are the quintessential board members”. Margie’s life began in Great Neck, New York. She is married to the love of her life Maurice Plough (who is the Chairman of the Board of the JAFCO Jewish Children’s Village). They are so proud of their three children: Jacob (Julisse), Sarah (Geoff) and Leah (Rafi) and adorable grandchildren Noah, Kayde, Knox, Nathaniel and Aaron. Margie is the Vice Chair of her family’s foundation – The Zale Foundation. Margie loves to join her husband, lovingly referred to as “Uncle Mo” by the children who live at the JAFCO Children’s Village, for their frequent dinners. “Everyone who knows Margie and Maurice immediately feels their generosity and kindness”, says Sarah.

Michael Simon, Secretary, JAFCO FamilyMatters Michael Simon is a life-long Philadelphia resident and has successfully practiced law since he commenced his legal career in 1971. Michael has been involved with JAFCO, both in the Northeast and Florida, ever since his wife Michelle became deeply connected to the JAFCO mission over 14 years ago. In 2018, Michelle sadly passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Michael continues to honor Michelle’s memory as he gives back to make the world a better place for generations to come. In addition to serving as Secretary of the FamilyMatters Board of Trustees, Michael is a Recommitted Godparent and recently named the FamilyMatters Events & Outreach office in loving memory of his wife Michelle Skalsky Simon. Michael has been involved in the non-profit world for decades and is active in the community with both JAFCO FamilyMatters and Golden Slipper Club & Charities. His leadership, legal knowledge and ongoing support of the FamilyMatters office has been instrumental in its growth and success. Michael is so proud of his son Marc (Gianna) and daughter Lisa. He is also the doting grandfather of precious Sienna Louise, who is named after Michelle. 39 There is so much life BETTER TOGETHER JAFCO GALA ALFRESCO to live, and if we just The JAFCO Gala was truly special this year as the very first in-person keep on breathing, gathering in our community in over 12 months. MAGGIE & STEWART GREENBERG GALA HONOREES Stewart first learned about JAFCO in the mid 90’s when he heard Sarah Franco speak at a parlor meeting. He then got involved, joined the Board of Trustees and led the capital campaign committee to raise $6 million to build the Village. Right after meeting Stewart, Maggie learned about JAFCO and immediately shared his passion to support the amazing work that JAFCO does. Over the years Stewart was elected to the JAFCO Children’s Foundation Board where he currently serves in addition to his position as Vice-Chairman for the Village Board. Stewart took on a major role in the construction committee which completed the Illuminate Ballroom, and his current capital project is the construction of the two new respite homes at the Children’s Ability Center. Stewart worked to value engineer the project saving JAFCO over $1 million before groundbreaking which took place April 2021. “We are so grateful to Stewart for the countless hours he has dedicated to helping JAFCO complete our construction projects and bring us in under budget,” said Sarah Franco. “Maggie and Stewart are the most special people who hold the children’s hearts in their own”. Stewart is an attorney and a member of both the Florida and New York Bar Associations. Maggie was born in Miami, grew up in Havana, Cuba, and at the age of 11 she and her family were finally allowed to return to the States under the Castro regime. Maggie is a full time Grandmother who was previously a Paralegal. Between them Stewart and Maggie have 7 incredible loving and successful children and 9 precious grandchildren.

GALA HONOREES STUART RADER & GAYLE COLEMAN RADER*

As part of their loving marriage of 22 years and law partnership for 13 of those years, Gayle and Stuart have always been very passionate about helping others. But it was Gayle who inspired Stuart to become even more involved in philanthropy. “I always felt that it is important to give back and help those in need and less fortunate,” Stuart explains, “but truly it was my incredible wife Gayle who was the real catalyst for starting us on the philanthropic journey in our lives and leading us to fall in love with JAFCO.” Gayle was an active member of the South Palm Beach Chapter of JAFCO, and she and Stuart attended many JAFCO events. Stuart was elected to the Board of Trustees of the JAFCO Children’s Foundation nearly two decades ago. He served as the founding chairman of the JAFCO Planned Giving Council, and as a member of the investment committee of which he is now Chairman. His dedication and expertise led to the incredibly important role he now holds as Chairman of the Board of the JAFCO Children’s Foundation Board of Trustees. Gayle and Stuart raised their amazing and talented daughter Sasha who is an art director and designer in NYC. After a courageous battle with leukemia and then breast cancer, Gayle passed away in 2017 at the age of 63. To honor Gayle’s life, their love for one another and her love for children, Stuart continues to give financially and dedicate his time to helping abused and neglected children, children in need of adoption and families in need.

IN  MEMORY OF ALAN LEVY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Alan Levy cared deeply about children and loved our South Florida community. He made dozens of million-dollar donations as part of his role as lead trustee of the Posnack Foundation to build huge campuses that bore the name of his beloved friend David Posnack, who entrusted him to build a JCC, a Hebrew Day School, and at JAFCO, a Children’s Village for abused children and an Ability Center for children with developmental disabilities. “I can still recall my first life-changing phone conversation with Alan,” says Sarah Franco, JAFCO CEO. “Our entire annual budget was $50,000 and Alan called and said ‘I’ve heard about the great work JAFCO is doing taking care of abused Jewish children who are in foster care and I’d like to send you $50,000 from the Posnack Foundation.’ And so, in one second Alan doubled our annual budget and since then has donated $3 million from the foundation always with a smile and his grand philanthropic heart.” Alan served for over two decades as Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the JAFCO Children’s Village, the JAFCO Children’s Foundation and the Children’s Ability Center. Alan J. Levy, 80, passed away in 2020 after a brave fight with cancer. He is survived by the love of his life of almost 58 years Marsha Oster Levy. Together they created a beautiful marriage filled with love and philanthropy and laughter as well as their greatest legacy, their beautiful family. We miss you every day, Alan. 41 BETTER TOGETHER HAVING FUN AT OUR FLORIDA EVENTS 2,743 DONORS Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of In My Shoes . History was made on March 24, 2021 when JAFCO and the Israeli Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Social Services (MOLSA), signed a declaration of intent that was read into the congressional record by US Congressman Ted Deutch. JAFCO and MOLSA have collaborated on several cases over the past year and have realized that there have been other mutual cases over the past 25 years, leading to the proposal of this formalized document between these two like-minded entities, whom are both sincerely interested in the safety and welfare of all children and families. JAFCO is willing to be a point of contact for MOLSA and can assist MOLSA directly with any cases in the state of Florida and Pennsylvania and is willing to connect MOLSA with the appropriate agency and contact person in all 50 states within the US. MOLSA is willing and able to assist JAFCO with any of their cases that have ties to Israel. In consideration of the mutual needs of both parties to collaborate and support one another when servicing cases that have international ties between Israel and the US, the parties agree to cooperate fully together in the areas of consultation, family assessments, foster care services, requests from the courts, referrals for support services, safety and welfare visits, and overall coordination of services with the entity that provides services in the area where the child or family resides. BETTER TOGETHER WE ARE EMPOWERING INDEPENDENCE A set of car keys for one of our children is the key to their independence. Becky’s story as a JAFCO alumni and IDF soldier struck a chord with Jarred Elmar, the founder and managing partner of The Geneva Group, a leading real estate investment and property services firm specializing in acquiring and managing commercial properties. “I immediately fell in love with Becky’s story,” Elmar said. “In spite of all the challenges she has had in her life, growing up at JAFCO, she continues to serve others, as an IDF soldier and as a beacon for those growing up with the same challenges she had. We should all be inspired by her. We at the Geneva Group believe that true success begins when you start giving back." To donate your car to JAFCO please call JAFCO CEO Sarah Franco at 954.315.8680. Special thanks to volunteer Mike Stern for overseeing our Car Donation Program for over 16 years.
