Tis report reviews the European, National, and Regional catalogues of protected species, focusing specifcally on the Orchidaceae family to determine which species seem to be well-protected and where they are protected. Moreover, this examination highlights which species appear to be underprotected and therefore need to be included in some catalogues of protection or be catalogued under some category of protection. Te national and regional catalogues that should be implemented are shown, as well as what species should be included within them. Tis report should be a helpful guideline for environmental policies about orchids conservation in Spain, at least at the regional and national level. Around 76% of the Spanish orchid fora are listed with any fgure of protection or included in any red list, either nationally (about 12-17%) or regionally (72%). -

Il fallait que la SFO renoue avec cette traditionnelle organisation de colloques, manifestation qui a contribué à lui accorder la place prépondérante qu’elle occupe au sein des orchidophiles français et de la communauté scientifique. C’est chose faite aujourd’hui. Nombreux sont les thèmes qui font l’objet de communications par des intervenants dont les compétences dans le domaine de l’orchidologie ne sont plus à prouver. -

MRKVICKA Zusammenfassung: Die systematische Stellung der Gattung Epipactis in der Subtribus Cephalantherinae wie auch die Stel- lung dieser Subtribus innerhalb der Unterfamilie Neottioideae wird an Beispielen enhvickungsgeschicht- licher Untersuchungen diskutiert. Nach den neuesten molekularen Daten, die aus DNA-Sequenzanalysen gewonnen wurden, ist ein Stammbaum erstellt worden, in dem die Neottioideae in die "epidendroids" eingereiht wurden. Das steht im Widerspruch zu dem in unserer Arbeit praktizierten Klassifikations- System, das in "Die Orcliideen" R. SCHLECHTER in der Bearbeitung von F. BMEGER und K. SENGHAS venvendet wird. Die Ableitung einer Orchideenblüte aus dem Liliiflorae-Erbe ermögliclit eine Differentialdiagnose zwi- schen den Orchidaceae und den Apostasiaceae. Die Apostasiaceae, die viele Autoren als Unterfamilie Apostasioideae zu den Orchidaceae stellen, werden durch vergleichende Blütenanalysen von dieser Familie abgetrennt. Der Entwickiungstendenz des Gynoeceums der Orchideen, durch die es zum Auf- bau eines Rostellums mit seinen Organen kommt, steht die Reduktionstendenz des Gynoeceums der Apostasiaceae, durch die es zu einer Verminderung des ursprünglich trimeren Stigmas kommt, gegen- über. The original book is A5-format, with 168 pages. Some changes have been made as follows: NOMENCLATURE has been updated, with the name used in the 1988 edition in brackets. Irish Names and family names have also been added. STATUS: There have been three Flora Protection Orders (1980, 1987, 1999) to date. If a species is currently protected (i.e. 1999) this is stated as PROTECTED, if it was previously protected, the year(s) of the relevant orders are given. IUCN categories have been updated as follows: EN to CR, V to EN, R to V. The original (1988) rating is given in brackets thus: “CR (EN)”. This takes account of the fact that a rare plant is not necessarily threatened. The European IUCN rating was given in the original book, here it is changed to the UK IUCN category as given in the 2005 Red Data Book listing. MAPS and APPENDIX have not been reproduced here. Abstract: The Epipactis helleborine (L.) Crantz group is one of the most taxonomically challenging species complexes within the genus Epipactis. Because of the exceptionally high levels of morpho- logical variability and the ability to readily cross with other species, ninety different taxa at various taxonomic ranks have already been described within its nominative subspecies, but the taxonomic status of most of them is uncertain, widely disputed, and sometimes even irrelevant. The present review is based on results of the most recent research devoted to the E. helleborine group taxonomy. In addition, we analysed data about taxa belonging to this group presented in some research articles and monographs devoted directly to the genus Epipactis or to orchids in certain area(s). Twenty of the 45 9 monitored Danish orchids showed a significant decrease in abundance over the past 30 years (16, if only 10 orchids with at least 50 observations each are selected), thus corroborating the previous observations of 11 declining orchid abundances at European scale.
