Abstract We report on a national survey (942 secondary students, 10 school boards, 5 provinces) that measures what young people know about the histories and the intellectual, political, and cultural legacies of racialized peoples, globally and nationally, and where they learned it (school, media, family, community). Intended as a contribution to, and challenge of, existing frameworks for multicultural education, the research demonstrates the importance of in and out of school learning, and how the various sites of learning resonate differently for particular groups of young people. It demonstrates the key role schools can play for different youth in building, or augmenting, a consistent, common knowledge base. Résumé Nous faisons le rapport d'une enquête nationale (942 élèves du secondaire, 10 conseils scolaires, 5 provinces) qui mesure la connaissance des jeunes, de l'histoire et de l'héritage intellectuel, politique et culturelle des peuples racialisés, mondialement et nationalement, et où ils l'ont appris (l'école, les médias, la famille, la communauté). -

By Pierre Beaudry, 7/23/17 INTRODUCTION The difference between Raphael de Sanzio and Andrea di Bonaiuto in their artistic treatments of the fundamental differences between Plato and Aristotle is a matter of great importance for the epistemology of axiomatics, because it is timeless. Raphael explicitly represented the two philosophers in his painting, The School of Athens, as two opposite figures, one pointing upward to the domain of ideas and the other pointing downward to the domain of the senses. Almost a hundred and fifty years before, Andrea di Bonaiuto painted three frescos representing the same difference through a process of axiomatic transformation from one to the other in his masterful composition in the Spanish Chapel, in Florence. Imagine yourself entering the Spanish Chapel of Santa Maria Novella in Florence with one idea in mind: experiment the axiomatic change that Andrea di Bonaiuto has set the stage for you in three immense frescos. As you enter, your head will tend to start spinning slowly in a spiral motion around the room, from the floor level upward to the pinnacle of the four gothic arches, which meet into a single point at the summit of the room; and then, your mind will spiral back down, Page 1 of 19 http://www.amatterofmind.us/ PIERRE BEAUDRY’S GALACTIC PARKING LOT by inversion, only to start a similar motion, again, through the experiment of examining in detail each of the three frescos. -

Vous le savez désormais : il s’agissait (participation) de L’Amour essayant une de ses flèches du sculpteur français Jacques Saly (1717-1776), l’un des artistes préférés de Madame de Pompadour. Notre Conseil d’administration a voté un mécénat exceptionnel de 2.8 millions d’euros en faveur de l’acquisition de ce chef- d’œuvre emblématique du goût rocaille dont la maîtresse royale était l’inspiratrice. Cette somme correspond à plus de la moitié du prix de cette magnifique statue négociée pied à pied à 5.5 millions d’euros avec l’actuel propriétaire. Pour compléter le budget d’acquisition du Louvre, nous avons tenu à nous associer à la campagne d’appel aux dons Tous Mécènes lancée cet automne par le Musée auprès de tous les Français pour réunir 600 000 euros supplémentaires. Cette cam- pagne se poursuivra jusqu’au 14 février 2016. D’ores et déjà, je remercie tous les Amis du Louvre qui ont, à titre personnel, choisi de contribuer à financer, en plus de leur cotisation, cette acquisition patrimoniale. Au-delà de cette campagne d’acquisition, le génie de Madame de Pompadour est également célébré cet hiver au Louvre-Lens qui inaugure le 5 décembre une exposition dont Xavier Salmon, Directeur du département des Arts graphiques est le commis- saire et qui s’intitule: Dansez, embrassez qui vous voudrez. -

E-mail: [email protected] RESUMO. Este artigo apresenta uma reflexão teórica a respeito do termo ‘deglutição’ utilizado por Oswald de Andrade no Manifesto Antropófago (1928). Nesse manifesto, recortamos o conceito de antropofagia, vocábulo que descreve a devoração do Outro no intuito de absorvê-lo, no afã de assimilar as características das estéticas estrangeiras, e que expressa o impacto dos processos colonizadores na formação da identidade brasileira. Partindo da crítica à civilização europeia (colonialista), Oswald de Andrade, nas entrelinhas de seu discurso sobre a antropofagia, dialoga com as atuais discussões acerca da dependência cultural dos países periféricos. Diante desses apontamentos, nosso propósito é traçar um percurso histórico das leituras e apropriações que o termo ‘deglutição’ sofreu ao longo destes 88 anos, na esteira de estudos de críticos consagrados como Candido, Schwarz e Santiago. This paper presents a theoretical discussion about the term ‘swallowing’ used by Oswald de Andrade in Manifesto Antropófago (1928). In this manifesto we cut the concept of cannibalism, a word that describes the devouring of the Other in order to absorb it, in his eagerness to assimilate the characteristics of foreign aesthetic, which expresses the impact of colonizing processes in the formation of Brazilian identity. -
