The Newark Police Department (NPD) prepared aptly for the weekend’s anticipated spike in crime, enlisting the service of 22 additional officers, “in addition to officers assigned to general patrol duties," as well as agents from the Delaware Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement agency. NPD stated in a press release they dispersed and issued loud music warnings to 16 parties over the course of Saturday, “based on the time of day.” They also made 58 criminal arrests on Saturday, including 19 open container arrests and 16 underage consumption/ possession arrests.
