With its unspoiled landscapes, blend of British and French influences, winding lanes, castles, ancient military forts, German WWII fortifications and a breathtaking coast, Jersey is an amazing destination for production companies l ooking for a unique shooting opportunity.

Jersey is a British Crown Dependency, though for the purposes of filming it should be noted that Jersey is not part of the regardless of the fact that is part of the British Isles. While not a membe r of the European Union, a special relationship is in place for the purposes of trade.

Jersey has its own political and constitutional independence.

LOCAL TAX

This will entirely depend on where the production company is based. Jersey has double taxation agreements in place with a number of countries.

Production staff working in Jersey would therefore not be liable for tax or social security payments on the island on the condition that the production company is based in one of these countries.

There will of course always be exceptions and we suggest that the production account contacts the local tax office for more information.

STUDIO SPACE/INSIDE COVER

Jersey Arts Centre

THE SPACE

The flat stage area measures 14m wall to wall, and has a full depth of 9m to the rear wall. The acting area is 8m deep and 11m wide downstage reducing to 9m wide upstage and is defined by a black box of cloth drapes the back of which can be opened to reveal a white cyc.

The scene dock door (U.S.L.) opens directly on to the street, and is 3.3m (11¶0´) high and 1.3m (4¶0´) wide, but for most occasions set and props can be brought in via the D.S.L. standard auditorium fire exit, which again opens straight to the street.

The cyclorama, which is made of projection quality plastic, is placed so that there is a crossover between it and the back wall of the stage. It can be tilted to compensate for key stoning when projecting onto from the Control Room.

The acoustics are designed for the spoken voice. This gives a clear, but dry, sound that carries easily across the auditorium.

SUSPENSION.

The Benjamin Meaker is essentially a non-flying house, but some simple flying is possible. The steel grid encompasses the full depth of the stage and the full width of the acting area.
