It was active over Himachal Pradesh on a few days and over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalaya West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Rayalaseema on one or two days of the week. Extremely heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Gujarat on 27th and over Gujarat Region and West Madhya Pradesh on 28th August 2017. Thunderstorms were occurred at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Kerala on one or two days of the week. METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level passed through Jaisalmer, Sheopur, centre of well marked low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood, Purulia, Digha and thence south- eastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 27th; through Bikaner, Kota, centre of well marked low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood, Sidhi, Daltonganj, Malda, Guwahati and thence eastwards to east Assam at mean sea level on 28th; through Bikaner, Shivpuri, Fursatgunj, Buxar, Malda and thence eastwards to Mizoram and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 29th; through Anupgarh, Hissar, Bareilly, Varanasi, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Malda, Guwahati and thence eastwards to Nagaland on 30th; through Ganganagar, Rohtak, Badayun, Gorakhpur, Patna, Balurghat and thence eastwards to Assam on 31st; through Ferozpur, Karnal, Bareilly, Gorakhpur Muzaffarpur, Goalpara and thence eastwards to East Assam on 1st August and it passed through Amritsar, Karnal, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Purnea, Malda and thence eastwards to East Assam on 2nd August 2017. The second branch also developed on 30th July and it passed through Gaya, Purulia, Digha and thence east-southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal. It became less marked on 31st July. Last week’s depression over southeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood lay as a well marked low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level on 27th. It lay over northwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood on 28th. It has become less marked on 29th July. However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation lay over East Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It lay over East Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 30th and has become less marked on 31th July 2017. Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation over East Rajasthan & neighbourhood, lay over central parts of Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 27th and it merged with the heat low over Pakistan & neighbourhood on 28th July 2017. Last week’s western disturbance as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies ran roughly along Longitude 77.0°E and north of Latitude 32.0°N above mean sea level has moved away east-northeastwards on 27th July 2017. A Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over western parts of Afghanistan & neighbourhood extended upto mid-tropospheric levels on 27th July. It lay over western parts of Afghanistan & neighbourhood and extended upto mid-tropospheric levels on 28th; over central parts of Afghanistan and extended upto 9.5 km above mean sea level on 29th July. It lay over northeast Afghanistan & adjoining north Pakistan and extended upto 3.6 km above mean sea level on 30th; over north Pakistan & neighbourhood between 3.1 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 31st and persisted on 1st August. It lay over central parts of Pakistan & adjoining area of Punjab and extended upto 2.1 Km above mean sea level on 02nd August 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Gujarat region & neighbourhood between 4.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level on 27th and has become less marked on 28th July 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra coast at 5.8 km above mean sea level on 28th. It lay over westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra and south Odisha coasts on 29th; over westcentral Bay of Bengal & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh coast on 30th and has become less marked on 31st July 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Saurashtra & Kutch and neighbourhood between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 29th. It lay over Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining South Pakistan on 30th; over Saurashtra & Kutch and neighbourhood between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 31st; over Kutch & adjoining south Pakistan between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level 01st August and over south Pakistan & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 02nd August 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal coast between 1.5 and 2.1 km above mean sea level on 30th and become less marked 31st July 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Punjab & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 31st. It lay over north Haryana & neighbourhood 01st and has become less marked 02nd August 2017. An east-west sheer zone ran roughly along latitude 23.0°N at 5.8 Km above mean sea level on 31st and become less marked 01st July 2017. The Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Iran & neighbourhood and extended upto mid-tropospheric levels on 31st and it persisted on 01st August. It lay over west Afghanistan & neighbourhood at 5.8 Km above mean sea level on 02nd August 2017. A north-south trough ran from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to north Bay of Bengal and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 31st; from east Bihar to northwest Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 01st; from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to north Bay of Bengal and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 02nd August 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood between 2.1 & 4.5 Km above mean sea level on 02nd August 2017. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast at 3.1 Km above mean sea level 02nd August 2017. RAINFALL SUMMARY Rainfall During The Week (27 July To 02 August 2017) Rainfall was large excess/excess in 4, normal in 9 and deficient/large deficient in 23 out of 36 meteorological sub- divisions. (All India Actual: 48.3 mm, Normal: 66.2 mm and Departure: -27%). Cumulative Seasonal Rainfall (1 June to 02 August 2017) Rainfall was large excess/excess in 5 normal in 23 and deficient/large deficient in 8 out of 36 meteorological sub- divisions. (All India Actual: 472.7 mm, Normal: 471.8 mm and Departure: 0%). Sub-division wise weekly and seasonal rainfall distribution is presented in Fig-1 and Fig-2. Sub-divisionwise daily distribution of realised rainfall is shown in Table-1(A). Statewise distribution of number of districts with Large-Excesse, Excess, Normal, Deficient, Large-deficient and no rainfall is shown in Table-2. A comparative data of cumulative seasonal rainfall during the corresponding period in the last five years is given in Table-3. Sub-divisionwise realised weekly rainfall (in cm) is shown in Annexure-1. METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS AS ON 03 AUGUST 2017 The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to run close to the foothills of the Himalayas. A northsouth trough runs from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to northeast Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 Km above mean sea level. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over East Uttar Pradesh & adjoining Bihar between 3.6 & 5.8 Km above mean sea level. A Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Jammu & Kashmir & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level. Another Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of Afghanistan at 5.8 Km above mean sea level. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Bay of Bengal at 7.6 km above mean sea level. FORECAST & WARNING FOR THE NEXT WEEK 03 AUGUST TO 09 AUGUST 2017 Detailed seven days Sub-division wise rainfall-forecast & weather-warning is given in Table-1(B).
