WORLD WAR I ARMISTICE DAY CENTENNIAL Sacred Service NOVEMBER 11, 2018 WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL WORLD WAR I ARMISTICE DAY CENTENNIAL Sacred Service NOVEMBER 11, 2018 WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL WW1 100 THE UNITED STATES YEARS WORLD WAR ONE CENTENNIAL COMMISSION Bells of Peace: A World War I Remembrance The United States World War I Centennial Commission launched a nationwide effort calling on Americans to toll bells across our country today, exactly one hundred years after the armistice, to honor the sacrifices of our fellow Americans in the Great War. Beginning at precisely 1100 EST, Washington National Cathedral’s bourdon bell will toll 21 times. It will be joined by bells in communities across the East Coast and will continue during the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month in each time zone of the United States. Participants include places of worship, schools, town halls, carillons, cemeteries, and local DAR, VFW and American Legion posts across the country. Additionally, all United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard installations, as well as Naval and Coast Guard ships at port and at sea, will toll their bells at the Eleventh Hour of this day to honor those who wore the uniform one hundred years ago. To Inspire the Future by Remembering our Past One hundred years ago, bells from steeples perched all over the world rang out in relief and joy, sorrow and hope, at news of the great Armistice. The war was over, but the hard work of peace lay ahead. Families, homes, and cities lay in ruins.

TIGERS IN THE TRENCHES: A STUDY OF CLEMSON IN THE GREAT WAR A Thesis Presented to the Graduate School of Clemson University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts History by Brock M. Lusk May 2015 Accepted by: Dr. Alan Grubb, Committee Chair Dr. Rod Andrew Dr. Jerome Reel ABSTRACT In April 1917, Clemson Agricultural College was a small, relatively-unknown land-grant college. The college had only been open for 23 years, 8 months with an average annual enrollment of 616 students when the United States declared war and entered World War I. By the end of the war, over 821 Clemson graduates and former students would serve in the U.S and Allied military services. James C. Littlejohn, the registrar from 1910 – 1925, attempted to catalog the service of these alumni during and after the war. In order to conduct this study, a cross reference of Clemson students from 1896 – 1920 with soldier rosters from World War I was necessary.

  • CATALOGUE JULY – DECEMBER 2020 Greetings from Osprey!
CATALOGUE JULY – DECEMBER 2020 Greetings from Osprey! The second half of 2020 sees a host of fantastic titles coming out from both established Osprey authors and new contributors alike. In September, we are publishing The English Civil War: An Atlas and Concise History of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms 1639–51 (p.1), a highly detailed cartographic survey of the epic struggle between Parliamentarians and Royalists from award-winning historian Col Nick Lipscombe. The same month also sees the publication of Tory Failmezger’s Rome – City in Terror (p.1), which pulls together the many strands of the story of Rome under nine months of German occupation from 1943 to 1944. We have two other new World War II titles publishing in the autumn, with Tom Cleaver’s I Will Run Wild (p.2) vividly recounting the early history of the Pacific War from the surprise Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor to the dramatic American victory at Midway. Prit Buttar also concludes his epic trilogy detailing the fighting in the Ukraine with The Reckoning (p.2), which describes the gruelling German retreat from advancing Soviet forces in a campaign that set the scene for the final act of the war on the Eastern Front. One of our best-selling publications, The Boys of ’67 (p.3), is reborn as a graphic novel that tells the story both of Charlie Company’s brutal experiences in Vietnam as well as the challenges faced by the wives, girlfriends and families left behind. In Mutiny on the Spanish Main (p.4) renowned naval historian Angus Konstam looks at the bloodiest mutiny in British naval history aboard HMS Hermione in 1782.

  • CATALOGUE JANUARY – JUNE 2020 Greetings from Osprey!
CATALOGUE JANUARY – JUNE 2020 Greetings from Osprey! 2020 is set to be a very exciting year for Osprey, with a host of fantastic titles publishing throughout the year. Our new military fitness title Be Para Fit (p.1) and its accompanying app are set to inspire beginners and aspiring Paras alike to journey towards elite fitness alongside former leader of Paratrooper selection Major Sam McGrath. In the gripping Blood, Metal and Dust (p.2), Brigadier Ben Barry offers an explosive insight into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing a detailed account of events on the ground during the conflicts. Given the ongoing scrutiny of the role of female soldiers in these and other conflicts, Julie Wheelwright’s Sisters in Arms (p.2) is a timely and relevant exploration of the history of female soldiers across the centuries which challenges the contemporary relationship between masculinity and combat. Tapping into the desire for alternative perspectives in military history, both The Devil’s Bridge (p.4) and To Defeat the Few (p.4) explore key aspects of World War II through the eyes of German forces. In the former, Anthony Tucker-Jones examines the battle for Arnhem, the result of the disastrous Allied Operation Market Garden, whilst the latter, by Paul Crickmore and Doug Dildy is a fascinating analysis of the Battle of Britain from the perspective of the Luftwaffe. Osprey Games also has a selection of exciting new releases this year, including Oathmark (p.26), a mass-battle fantasy wargame, and Letterpress (p.24). a clever card game for witty wordsmiths.
