570511bk Scarlatti10 US:570034bk Hasse 18/6/08 10:50 AM Page 4 Colleen Lee In 2005 Colleen Lee won Sixth Prize (the only female Domenico laureate) at the Fifteenth Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition. She was also a prizewinner in the 2007 Sendai International Music Competition, the 2005 SCARLATTI Città di Cantù International Competition and the 2003 Seiler International Piano Competition. She has perf- ormed with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the China Complete Keyboard Sonatas Vol. 10 Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. She has also appeared in a number of International Festivals including the Inter- Colleen Lee, Piano national Chopin Festival in Duszniki, the International Keyboard Festival in New York and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. In addition to her solo work, she has a keen interest in chamber music. Born in Hong Kong, Colleen Lee was trained at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as a pupil of Eleanor Wong. Since 2003 she has been studying with Arie Vardi at the Hanover Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Her début disc, recorded in Warsaw with the Pleyel Piano, was issued by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in 2006. The International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition The International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Compe- tition, launched in 1927, is one of the oldest music competitions in the world. Constantly evolving over its ninety-year existence, it has improved its form and forged its own rich tradition. The number of rounds, the programme, the method for assessing participants and the number of prizes awarded have all changed. What has remained constant since the very beginning is the interest in the Competition among critics, the media, pianists, ‘culture vultures’ and the public at large.
