This monumental event once again brings together thousands of shluchim from five continents and nearly every country of the world. Yet, as the Rebbe often stressed, your individual participation is essential to the success of this gathering of hearts and minds. Every single shliach is indispensable to the body of shlichus, as we all play a vital role in the greater picture envisioned by our Meshaleach. During these few days together, we are able to truly appreciate this vision and thus gain renewed energy to continue our important work. The theme of this year’s Kinus is shxj t yvgd xg. These few words from ouh ouhv inherently capture the essence of what a shliach must strive for. Every shliach has a unique shlichus with its own circumstances, triumphs and challenges. At the same time, we all share the common merit of being u,unf ost ka ujuka. This immense ,ufz comes with the responsibility of realizing, with every fiber of our being, that we represent something far greater than ourselves. At any given moment or place, a person encountering a shliach should be able to easily recognize and declare: “That’s a chosid, that’s a shliach of the Rebbe.” The Vaad HaKinus has put great effort to ensure that your time at the Kinus is both meaningful and productive. A vast amount of workshops, sessions, farbrengens and other programming were designed to enable you to return to your ,ujhkav ouen with new ideas, innovative goals and renewed energy and enthusiasm. We encourage you to review the schedule and select programs, sessions and workshops which interest you. We have ensured that the Kinus covers a wide range of subjects, guaranteeing that you will find programming applicable to your specific shlichus. We truly hope that you will thoroughly enjoy the Kinus ,uhnadc sjh od ,uhbjurcu. We trust and pray, that the achdus engendered by the Kinus will bring upon us the brochos of sjtf ubkuf ubhct ubfrc with the ultimate brocho of ann curec vnkavu ,h,hntv vkutd. For those who believe, anything is possible, and there are no questions. For those who don’t believe, there are no answers. So, although we didn’t know where the funds would come from, we believed and — together with the emissaries we recruited for the task — we managed to establish not only seven Chabad centers but twelve. The next day, our California delegation had an audience with the Rebbe during which we presented him with a silver crown to fit atop his personal Torah scroll. I also invited Rabbi Chaim Itche Drizin, who was then working in Northern California as a Talmud Torah teacher, to join us. I asked him, “How would you like to serve as an emissary with us?” And he responded “I’d love to.” During the audience, I pointed to Rabbi Drizin and said to hen the Rebbe turned seventy, he challenged his the Rebbe, “He will establish the first new Chabad House Wchasidim to establish seventy-one new institutions. of the seven that we promised.” I had the honor of being present at the farbrengen when the And the Rebbe looked at us and smiled.
