Jim has very kindly allowed me to use his illustra- tions. For a sneek preview why not visit his web site www.jimbamber.co.uk 3 Chairman's Chatter A couple of apologies to start with. We were late getting the 2011 calendar onto the website as we had difficulties in uploading onto the re-designed site and, similarly, this has delayed the display of the 2010 winners – hopefully we will resolve these glitches shortly. We have also had a number of comments that the new website is rather dark, there is no forum for members to use, some of the information is out dated etc. etc. We are taking these comments on board and, hopefully, we will be bring- ing the operation 'in-house' so we can keep it up to date and quickly edit any- thing which is out date. You will see that this years calendar includes a number of different events on the same day giving you the option of picking your favourite or most conven- ient venue. We also have some new venues giving greater variety to the Championship and to make it a more attractive calendar - You will also note that we have reduced the Championship qualifying requirement to one NSCC organised event only to give everyone the best opportunity of featuring in the final results at the end of the season. Until a few years ago you had to complete 3 from 5 NSCC events and this did- n't produce any problems for anybody but for some reason in recent years competitors aren't able to commit to the Championship as fully as they used to hence the need to reduce the qualifying figure. Please remember that the main income for the Club is from it's own events, we get no financial benefit from other rounds in the Championship, so I would still ask you to enter as many of the NSCC events at Curborough, MIRA and Thoresby as you can. Thanks to great work by Steve Brown we have a significantly increased num- ber of clubs using our events as rounds of their championship this year which, hopefully, will give us the chance to increase our income even though we have dropped the loss making May event this year – who knows we may even be over subscribed and have the 'reserve lists' which used to be the norm. A couple of invitations to Mallory Park sprints in March & June came in too late to be considered for the Championship but look out for details in Spin Off.- as an invited club they are open to NSCC members – the sprinting will be dove- tailed into the race meetings being run on the same day, just make sure you are ready to go when they call you. Not a lot else this month, the Elise has survived the bad weather and started on the button the other week (thank goodness for trickle chargers) – just need to get some practice in if I'm going to avoid the wooden spoon at every event like last year. A couple of winter paddocks to go so hopefully will see you there Roger C [email protected] 4 Editors Mutterings A New Year dawns and I trust this edition of Spin Off finds you all in good spirits and relishing the impending start to the new motor sport season for 2011. Those of you with your pride and joy strewn across the garage floor might want to think about putting those pieces in to some semblance of order and getting a test day booked prior to the start of the season. The first event usually has a habit of sneaking up on you all too quickly. For those of you who are “ready to go”, might I suggest that you download a set of the Club Championship regulations and read them thoroughly. These should be available to download from the club website, if not keep checking as we have a couple of novices on website duty and it could all go horribly wrong! The lack of time spent in reading the criteria necessary to compete in any championship, not just NSCC, is all too evident when some drivers find out too late in the season that they have competed in insufficient events or the wrong events to qualify for a championship position. The Championship Regulations are published for the benefit of all NSCC Championship competitors. A lot of time is put into com- piling these and their accuracy is of paramount importance to the MSA, so please take the time to read them. I hope that as many of you as possible will endeavour to put pen to paper during the coming season to provide the membership with de- tails of your exploits on the track. Whether you are a seasoned com- petitor, or a complete novice, it matters not. It all makes for inter- esting reading. Remember, we all had to start somewhere and we all have had our moments during out initiation into motor sport. All my contact details are on the inside front cover of each issue so please send me what you can. Better still, why not us know what state your race car is in during the off-season as well! PM Classic Corner – December 2010 Incorporating Memorable Moments Five years ago the changes for the 2006 season included a new Classic Car class at our sprints for cars over 25 years old - and there would be an additional age and engine size related score sheet to help show some reasonable comparison. The Class results for the season were: 1st Stewart Scott Triumph TR4 – 2nd Paul Dowsett Alfa Romeo Sud – 3rd David Holden Alpine Renault A110. The year also saw 57 drivers sign on for the Malory Park 50 year classic parade organised by the club in recognition of our having ran the first car race meeting at the venue in 1956. For 2007 Stewart Scott repeated his victory, Andy Walker MGB V8 was 2nd and Nick Parrans-Smith MGB Roadster was 3rd. The club also ran a sec- ond parade at Mallory Park and the third and final one in the seeries in 2008 to mark the 60 year jubilee celebrations of the club. More classic snipetts in the next issue. Bruce Widdowson CLUB WEBSITE - www.gosprinting.co.uk By the time this edition of Spin Off drops on your door mat, the club website should have been updated with last years winners photos and a new tab created to provide the text for previous years winners. The 2011 Championship Regulations, Calendar, Membership and Championship forms are all available to download from the site now. Apologies for the delay in getting all the changes made to the site, this was a culmination of shortage of time and an incredible lack of knowledge as to how the website actually works. We have had had a kind offer of literally “free” help in keeping the website up to date and this offer will be considered at the next com- mittee meeting. Press Release OCTOBER 06, 2013 Podium lock out for Renault power in Korean Grand Prix Sebastian Vettel wins Korean Grand Prix for Infiniti Red Bull RacingRenault, four seconds ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Lotus F1 Team’s Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean finish second and third to make podium 100% Renault powered. Third allRenault powered podium this season. Vettel has led 209 of the past 213 racing laps. Vettel’s win gives him a mathematical chance to seal championship in Japan. Renaultpowered drivers locked out the podium in today’s Korean Grand Prix, with Sebastian Vettel (Infiniti Red Bull Racing) winning the chaotic race from Lotus F1 Team’s Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean. The perfect podium result is the third time this season that the podium has been 100% Renaultpowered.* Vettel – whose pole position yesterday took Renault’s total of F1 poles to 208, equal with Ferrari’s record – opened up a comfortable lead at the start ahead of Grosjean, who had jumped ahead of Hamilton on the first corner. The pair built up a cushion of several seconds over the battles behind and were able to pit and rejoin in formation. Vettel remained in front despite two different safety cars but Raikkonen got the jump on Grosjean before the second safety car period. The Finn had a standout race from P9 on the grid, overtaking Rosberg, Hamilton, Alonso, Hulkenberg and finally his teammate to score his second consecutive podium. Mark Webber started from P13 as a result of a grid penalty but quickly found himself into the top ten racing with Alonso and Raikkonen.

The "formula", designated in the name, refers to a set of rules with which all participants' cars must comply. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (from French, originally meaning great prizes), held throughout the world on purpose-built circuits and public roads. The results of each race are evaluated using a points system to determine two annual World Championships, one for the drivers and one for the constructors.

SPEED™, FOX SPORTS CONTINUE TEAM APPROACH TO FORMULA ONE COVERAGE IN 2010 BUXTON JOINS SPEED AS GRID REPORTER SPEEDTV.COM TO DEBUT FANTASY GAME, ENHANCED VIDEO OFFERINGS The familiar faces of Bob Varsha, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett once again will lead the SPEED/FOX Sports Formula One broadcast team as SPEED rolls into its 15 th year as the exclusive U.S. cable broadcaster of the FIA Formula One World Championship, beginning with live coverage of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14 at 7:30 a.m. ET. One face, however, will be new to the U.S. viewing audience. Will Buxton, the 29-year-old founding editor of GPWeek magazine, will report from the grid, replacing Peter Windsor, whose efforts remain focused on his start-up US F1 project. “First up, I've got to admit that I’m just massively excited about the whole thing,” said Buxton, who will join the team shortly after he and wife Emma welcome their first child. “It’s a huge honor to be joining the SPEED team, and in particular to be doing so at the start of what could be an incredible era in the history of Formula 1. “F1 is a bit of a soap opera at times,” Buxton added. “As a journalist it’s what makes the sport such a joy to report on. There’s always something going on in the background, and I won’t shy away from doing my best to get to the heart of every issue. That said, I don’t think that my job at SPEED is simply to report the news.

  • The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue
Volume 2, Issue 7 December 2010 The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue Contents Race control Motorsport review Recent race results Caught by the cameras Race control So another year of motor sporting draws to a close. The major categories have completed their seasons with some of the closest racing seen in the final events. Perhaps the persistent fiddling with the rules and rewards systems is paying off. The F1 had everyone madly working out the various permutations by which their favoured driver could finish on the top step, right up until the last lap in Bahrain. Loeb took his seventh World Rally championship title in his home town of Hagenot, in France, with two events left on the calendar. However, the WRC still ended on a nail-biter with the rising Sebastian Ogier challenging a much more consistent Jari-Matti Latvalla and an impressively resurgent Petter Solberg for second place. With a very satisfying end to the season, we also bid farewell to the current class of WRC cars, which will be replaced with shorter wheel base, 1600cc turbo engined car in 2011. Citroen will run a DS3, BP Ford a Fiesta RS and Mini will provide a third manufacturer in selected events with its Countryman model. The V8s finished their season in Sydney at the Homebush Bay circuit and was again replete with carnage and position changes, right up until the final lap, where Shane Van Gisbergen ran out of fuel while running in first place, yet managed to coast across the finish line in in third.

F1 Digest – Prelude to the Korean Grand Prix Christine: South Korea Finds itselF hosting a bit oF an awkward race. At this point in the season, the championship is either drawing towards an incredible, tense and exciting conclusion, or it’s like this year. With Red Bull storming away with both titles at the moment, it would take a huge upset For anyone to stand in their path. Korea also doesn’t have one of the most captivating or memorable tracks, which makes it a tough weekend to get truly excited about. But, there’s always something to look Forward to, isn’t there? This show is where you’ll Find out what. Mr C: Welcome to F1 Digest – Prelude to the Korean Grand Prix. This is your race preview For all the action in South Korea, brought to you by Sidepodcast. Now, here is your host, Christine BlachFord. Christine: The long-range weather forecasts for the weekend in Korea show sunny skies for all three days. The temperature is set to hover around the 25 degrees C mark, increasing gradually as the weekend wears on. There’s little chance oF rain, in fact the early predictions put the possible percentage oF rain at 0. But the wind could have an impact at certain sections oF the track, and the humidity is greater than 60% on occasion, so these are extra things the drivers will have to deal with. As I said, a lap of the Korean International Circuit isn’t too memorable, except For two things. It’s another track that sends the drivers round anti-clockwise, so neck strain is supposed to be something to watch out For, although these guys are tip top athletes and never seem to have a problem with it.

The setup work has all been done now, so hopefully it will be easier to keep things ticking over next year. This newsletter keeps the clinical section short for a change and addresses a couple of aspects of airway management. There is a wrap up of the main categories for this year and a few items of general motorsport interest follow on. Finally, the firey aspects of the 2011 season of V8 Supercars Australia are displayed in the “Caught by the Cameras” section. Have a good Christmas. Good luck.
