As previously announced, after considering all factors and circumstances, receiving input from the community, reviewing all available options and discussing the matter thoroughly, the MCA Elections Committee, by majority decision, decided to conduct and hold exclusively online voting for the 1442 Hijri (2020-2021) MCA Election. All members will be considered absentee in this year’s election and will only be able to vote online. The MCA Elections were originally to take place via an online ballot on September 11, September 12 and September 13, 2020. Given the unique circumstances in our community, namely the Covid-19 pandemic and the closure of the MCA facility, and given that this is the first time the MCA Elections would be held online, the MCA Elections Committee sought to vet all available online voting programs to ensure that our elections would be accessible and secure for all voters and produce uncompromised results in a timely manner that the community could have confidence in. After significant research and conversations, the MCA Elections Committee has contracted with and retained the service of ElectionBuddy.com, a company that has run over 40,000 elections, to run a secure, anonymous, high integrity election for the MCA this year. In order to have the necessary contact information from all MCA members to vote, to set up the process with the people at ElectionBuddy.com and to ensure the availability of ElectionBuddy.com staff to manage, facilitate and troubleshoot our election process, the MCA Elections Committee determined that this year’s elections should take place on the weekdays of Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 17 as opposed to weekend days, as originally scheduled, when the ElectionBuddy.com staff would have limited capacity to manage our election. These selected dates, which fall on the 28th and 29th of Muharram, still fall within the timeframes for the MCA election dictated by Article XII, Section 1 of the MCA Constitution that require the elections to be held between the tenth and the end of Muharram. We are also aware of Section 7 of Article XII of the MCA Constitution which notes that “The exact time of the elections shall be announced by the Election Committee at least four weeks before the election.” However, given that we are moving the elections back and not forward, the vast discretion afforded to the MCA Elections Committee in setting the parameters of absentee balloting (as noted previously all members will be considered absentee in this year’s election), and the unique circumstances of the this year’s elections, we pray that we are still abiding by both the spirit and letter of MCA Constitutional mandates. Please contact us with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, MCA Election Committee Members: ● Sajid A. Khan (Chair) ● Altaf Khan ● Marwa Ahmed ● Christy Chase ● Khandaker Aza 2 24. There is no readily available particularised fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) on the matter, and it was not until the early 1990s that a few Islamic scholars began delving into the Shariah in the interests of finding Islamic modes of protection. Since that time, with the exception of a few recent fatwas, little academic scholarship has persisted despite the fact that the Sharia presents as a rich source of protection and assistance for forced migrants. • Iran, Israel, the Persian Gulf, and the United States: a Conflict Resolution Perspective
Iran, Israel, the Persian Gulf, and the United States: A Conflict Resolution Perspective By Simon Tanios Abstract Where the Middle East is often described as a battleground between “chosen peoples”, Johan Galtung, the principal founder of the discipline of peace and conflict studies, preferred to see it as a conflict between “persecuted peoples”. Iran, Israel, the Persian Gulf, and the United States have been in various conflicts through history shaking peace in the Middle East, with a prevailing tense atmosphere in relations between many parties, despite some periods of relatively eased tensions or even strategic alliances. Nowadays, Iran considers the United States an arrogant superpower exploiting oppressed nations, while the United States sees Iran as irresponsible supporting terrorism. In sync with this conflict dynamic, on one hand, the conflict between Iran and many Gulf countries delineates important ideological, geopolitical, military, and economic concerns, and on the other hand, the conflict between Iran and Israel takes a great geopolitical importance in a turbulent Middle East. In this paper, we expose the main actors, attitudes, and behaviors conflicting in the Middle East region, particularly with regard to Iran, Israel, the Gulf countries, and the United States, describing the evolution of their relations, positions, and underlying interests and needs. Then, while building our work on the Galtung’s transcend theory for peace, we expose some measures that may be helpful for peace-making in the Middle East. Keywords: Iran; Israel; Gulf countries; the United States; conflict resolution. I. Introduction of Israel in the Muslim World, and the mutual animosity between Iran and the United States.

M "s/.-Oj Uni^ 0 2 t'S 2C06 THESIS 1 ABSTRACT The sad demise of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (571- 622AD) created a vacuum in the Muslim Ummah. However, this vacuum was filled by the able guided and pious Khulafa {Khulafa-i-Rashidin) who ruled Ummah one after another. Except the first Khalifah, all the subsequent three Khulafa were unfortunately martyred either by their co-religionists or by antagonists. Though the assassination of Hazrat Umar (RA) did not create any sort of havoc in the Ummah, but the assassination of Hazrat Uthman (RA) caused a severe damage to the unity of Muslim Ummah. This was further aggravated by the internal dissentions caused by the assassination of the third Khalifah during the period of the fourth Khalifah, leading to some bloodshed of the Muslims in two bloody wars of Camel and Si/fin; Hazrat All's assassination was actually a result of that internal strife of the Muslims, dividing the Muslim community into two warring camps. Hazrat Hasan's abdication of the Khilafah tried to bridge the gulf but temporarily, and the situation became explosive once again when Hazrat Muawiyah (RA) nominated his son Yazid as his successor whose candidature was questioned and opposed by a group of people especially by Hazrat Husain (RA) on the ground that he was not fit for the Khilafah.
