SUSAN GOOHOUSE PHOTO ...FROM Hello and Greetings THE CHAIR I am pleased to report, that 2016 was a very productive, successful and active year in Pat Shields Region 1 for our ponies, members, officers and committee members. Each of person that participates helps make our region what it is and that is “Special”. This has been a fantastic and busy year for Region 1. We just finished celebrating our 50th Anniversary show; with record numbers of pony and rider attendance. Over one hundred pony/ rider pairs attended and competed, with over seventy purebred and halfbred Connemaras, and sixty riders and handlers. We had an excellent mix of both purebreds and halfbreds with ample classes for all levels of participation. Our young handlers had their own classes and demonstrated their junior handling skills both in hand and ridden classes. There were trail classes, dressage, driving and of course jumping classes. Additional details will follow from our show committee, who worked incredibly hard to make our show a success.     2020 ANNUAL REPORT t would be fair to say that 2020 was by far the most challenging year in our history, but we persevered and continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of America’s at-risk and transitioning horses. I The work of the EQUUS Foundation begins each time the career of a horse comes to an end. For so many horse lovers and protectors, it’s hard to imagine that behind the glamour and affluence of equine sport, there are many horses that are abandoned, neglected, abused, and shipped across our borders for slaughter when their owners cannot, or no longer wish to, care for them. Viewed as commodities, too many horses in sport and in the workplace are regarded as disposable for profit when they no longer serve their owners’ purpose. For horses to remain an important part of American life and have a viable future, we need to embrace a fundamental shift in our attitude towards horses -- from the horse as a commodity to the horse as an athlete, companion, teacher, and healer. We dedicate our efforts to finding homes for at-risk horses and horses in transition, providing a safe haven for aged and infirm horses, and increasing opportunities for all people to engage and partner with horses in new and innovative ways. “For horses to remain an important part of Informed giving has never been more important. Can't believe we are in the final quarter of 2020. It's been a unique year to say the least. Lots of new challenges for sure. Last week we had beautiful weather and the trees were just outstanding in there fall colors. Today as I write this, there's a strong wind stripping the leaves from the trees and temperatures are predicted to drop into the low teens tomorrow night...and it's not even Halloween yet! Not ready for water tank heaters and pony blankets! Though a lot of events had been canceled, the ACPS committees have been using the time to regroup and come up with new ideas to promote our ponies and membership. There should be some new information about these things in the next magazine. They have also been working on improving and updating the webpage. Lots of new things are in the works, so stay tuned and check out the magazine. Check out our public Facebook page which can be found at: American Connemara Pony Society - Region 8 that everyone can post to. It currently has 287 followers. Not bad considering there are about 16 Region VIII members. So it's a good place to promote our ponies. Don't forget to send information for the “Meet the Members” blurb.

    List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony".
